The Principal Development Manager - Agriculture will provide both strategic leadership for IDG's development work in the agriculture sector and manage the implementation of complex activities for IDG.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate not only the ability to think strategically and provide policy advice, but also to develop and implement agricultural projects and programmes. This will require project management skills and experience including identification, feasibility, design, contract tendering and appraisal.

To be successful in this role you will have extensive networks across the public, private and international agriculture sector. You will have experience working in an international context with a sound understanding of development issues and effective practice. Experience of working in the private sector (particularly agricultural) or in partnership with the private sector would be an advantage.

Superior relationship management skills across a variety of cultures and ethnicities are fundamental to successful execution of this role essential. You will have a collaborative and results oriented working style with a track record for delivering quality work of a very high standard that produces lasting results. You will be expected to work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, providing technical advice and support. You will be able to draw on a significant network of New Zealand agricultural connections in designing international development interventions that draw on New Zealand’s comparative advantage to make a sustainable difference for our development partners.

An understanding of the socio-economic context of developing countries and development principles is required. Applicants will hold a relevant tertiary qualification and have strong analytical and writing skills. A relevant postgraduate qualification is desirable.
