Background / General description: | |
This is a three-year term appointment, however World Bank group staff currently on open-ended contracts are encouraged to apply and if selected, will retain the appointment status. IFC aims to improve client focus and increase development impact by building on the Corporation’s global expertise and local presence. To implement this strategy, IFC is seeking to hire a Resident Representative who will manage IFC’s staff and operations located in Monrovia, Liberia. As part of the Liberia country team, the Resident Representative will lead business development, executive transactions, and actively manage portfolio projects. H/she will establish and maintain strong relationships with business partners and high level representatives of the Liberian Government, as well as with governmental and non-governmental organizations, to maximize the impact of IFC’s intervention and to contribute to the overall development of the country and its industries. The Resident Representative will be a member of the Africa Regional Leadership Team and will report to the Director for West and Central Africa, based in Dakar. S/he will work closely with the Investment and Advisory managers and Heads, to ensure appropriate staffing and resources to achieve IFC’s business goals within the matrix. | |
Duties and Accountabilities: | |
•Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional businesses, banking and multilateral partners, to further develop specific investment and advisory opportunities and to develop industry sectors with a high development impact. •Facilitate IFC investment and advisory activities through strong relationships with government officials. •Collaborate with and coordinate all IFC missions. •Represent IFC at key government and multilateral functions. •Support sector teams in the management of portfolio companies until exit; propose portfolio restructurings, capital increases, equity sales etc. •Develop new business and provide innovative and flexible financial structures for complex transactions. •Support sector teams in the due diligence and processing of new transactions as necessary. •Set standards for thoroughness in quality control and make recommendations to strengthen transactions. •Lead and manage project teams; mentor and develop junior staff. •Lead the country strategy process; support promotional and policy advisory activities. •Coordinate closely with social, environmental and technical assistance colleagues to add value to our clients’ businesses. •Propose pragmatic solutions to specific industry challenges to achieve sustainable development impact. | |
Selection Criteria: | |
Master’s degree in finance or business or equivalent professional qualification. A minimum of 10 years’ experience in finance with a proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments, possibly with a focus on projects in emerging markets. Sound knowledge of Africa in general and Liberia in particular. Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners, and strong business development and client relationship skills; ability to focus effectively on clients’ needs. Excellent financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity). Robust analytical and problem solving skills to identify issues and present creative practical solutions. Capacity to deal with conflicting priorities and to operate in difficult business environments while delivering high quality work on schedule; facility to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact independently with senior management of potential clients and other business partners, as well as with senior government officials. Ability to represent IFC externally, and to develop relationships with government, media, clients, donors, and other stakeholders. Proven track record of mentoring junior staff. Genuine commitment to highest ethical standards and to sustainable development. Strong written and verbal communications skills in English essential.
