I. TechnoServe Background:

TechnoServe is an international, non-profit economic development organization founded in 1968 out of a conviction that a vibrant private sector is an essential foundation for economic growth and poverty reduction. TechnoServe undertakes targeted, catalytic technical assistance and other programming to increase the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, businesses and industries that in-turn provide sustainable employment, inclusion of the poor and increased incomes. TechnoServe operates in 25 developing countries with over 1000 employees. A substantial portion of our work is in agriculture, enhancing farm productivity and commodity quality and addressing gaps in processing and other agribusiness capacities. Our programs increase smallholder access to new technologies, aggregation and storage mechanisms, markets, critical information and finance. TechnoServe also undertakes structured programs to identify and support high potential entrepreneurs in various sectors through leadership mentoring networks, formalization support, access to capital and development of sustainable business services such as accounting, finance, marketing and human resource management.


II. Position Description:

The primary purpose of this position is to support engagement with directors, donors, members and other key stakeholders in order to maximize revenue generation and donor lifecycle with TechnoServe. The secondary purpose of this position is to own and continuously improve the quality of our communications and interactions with directors, members and donors.

This position is a manager-level, meaning the person occupying the post should be fully capable of implementing strategies and securing the support and cooperation of other staff to deploy key tactics. The qualified individual will have a strong predisposition to engage with stakeholders and a strong skillset in project and relationship management. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, dynamic and energetic, and capable of calmly and competently dealing with multiple projects simultaneously.

Board:
• Coordinate with Senior Director, CEO and Board Chair on board giving, including annual gifts, special gifts and gala-related ticket purchases or gifts
• Line edit and oversee design of the board book in coordination with the communications team
• Manage meeting logistics for annual international board meeting
• Compose e-mail and other correspondence for annual board solicitation from board chairman
• Coordinate mailings to board contacts with major gifts and direct marketing team
• Develop a strategy for reaching out to the Emeritus Society (former board members) and improving their giving

Events:
• Manage contractor for annual gala
• Maintain event notebooks or other production/management guides for events
• Project manage annual gala, including coordinating production of materials and collateral with the communications team and production of invitation lists and mailings with major gifts team and direct marketing team, and supporting collection of pledged funds post-gala
• Manage small donor gatherings in major markets (dinners, luncheons, speaking engagements) including working with senior staff on arranging, identifying and inviting potential attendees, logistics and sometimes staffing the events

Membership:
• Manage members program (part of our governance structure) including identifying, nominating, inviting and maintaining members
• Create and implement an engagement strategy for members (conference calls with the field, e-mail updates, etc.) designed to lead them to a continuously growing cycle of giving and engagement
• Plan annual members meeting in conjunction with June board meeting

Trips:
• Plan and implement donor trips to the field (one first year, maybe two thereafter) in coordination with major gifts team
• Maintain trip notebooks or other production/management guides for development of effective and impactful donor trips
• Work with partners in the field to create dynamic donor trips
• Arrange trip logistics to ensure that donors have a seamless, pleasurable experience.
• Work with major gifts officers to identify prospects for and support travel of donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more
• Support major gifts officers to prepare travellers for the trip and on follow-up with travellers to ensure the maximum gift for TechnoServe



III. Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in liberal arts, communications, or other relevant field
• Three to five years of experience working directly with a board or other volunteer leadership body
• First-hand experience managing a major (100 plus person) event and/or international travel for donor audiences
• Strong written and oral communications skills
• Proactive approach to managing a challenging workload and to staying engaged during busy or high-stress times
• Proven ability to engage with colleagues and to form strong working relationships in a team environment
• Energetic, engaged personal and professional presentation and strong work ethic
