TI Secretariat in Berlin is seeking a highly motivated consultant for the position of:

Regional Coordinator for the Pacific

Transparency International (TI) is the civil society organisation leading the global fight against corruption. TI currently has more than 90 National Chapters around the world. Its International Secretariat is based in Berlin, Germany. There are six National Chapters in the Pacific, including in Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

TI does not investigate or expose individual cases of corruption but advocates for reform by focusing on systemic improvement and by building coalitions with other anti-corruption stakeholders, including governments, the private sector and civil society organisations.

Title: Regional Coordinator for the Pacific

Full time free-lance consultancy based in the region

Main function: Responsibility for country and regional work in the Pacific

Starting date: as soon as possible
Duration: 2 years limited term contract, with possibility for extension
Location: in the Pacific; with induction and regular travel to Berlin, with international travel in the Pacific
Department: International Group / Asia Pacific Department
Reporting lines: Reports to Regional Director, Asia Pacific Department
Salary: NGO level

Key responsibilities:

The role of the Senior Programme Coordinator is to strengthen and promote anti-corruption work in the Pacific through supporting TI National Chapters and engaging with governments, international organisations, private sector and civil society. The main responsibilities include the following:

1. Regional work
Provide capacity development and governance support to TI National Chapters
Pursue contacts with governments, international organisations, private sector and civil society to facilitate the work of National Chapters
Respond to enquiries from members of the public, international organisations, etc.
Identify new partners/potential National Chapters and negotiate partnerships
Represent TI at forums in or about the region as appropriate

2. Programme activities
Manage ongoing capacity development programmes in the Pacific region: deliver programme activities, financial management of programmes, donor reporting
Manage additional capacity development programmes subject to funding and time constraints
Project development and fundraising: develop new programmes in consultation with National Chapters, including researching and writing proposals and preparing budgets
Liaise with current donors, in particular the New Zealand and Australian Development Agencies
Identify and liaise with potential donors

3. Contribute to Transparency International’s overall objectives
Contribute to TI programmes: including giving input to other programmes; acting as liaison between other programmes, project managers and National Chapters
Contribute to TI publications
Assist in the application of TI tools in the region
Prepare briefings on countries and issues for TI Management and Board members
Other tasks as assigned by the Asia Pacific Programme Manager and/or Regional Director

4. Media and communications work:
Identify media opportunities relating to TI’s work in the region, draft press releases, respond to media enquiries

Knowledge, experience and skills:

University/post graduate degree in political science or other relevant field
Minimum of 5 years’ relevant international work experience (in NGOs, international organisations, private sector, etc)
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge (political, socio-economical, cultural) and experience of the region
Knowledge of organisational capacity development
Knowledge of, or considerable interest in, the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption
Proven management/coordination experience
Excellent project development and fundraising skills
Fluency in English
Pacific languages an advantage
Excellent communication skills
Highly developed team work and intercultural communication skills
Willingness to travel

Please note that the successful candidate will be asked to spend a 3-month induction period at Transparency International Secretariat in Berlin.
