TV & SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER: ADULT
REPORTING TO: EXECUTIVE: MEDIA
DURATION: 2 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content development for the adult television and social media interventions
Facilitate the topic identification process.
Liaise with the Research Unit in developing research briefs and during the course of the research process.
Commission formative research and literature review.
Consult with government, donor and civil society stakeholders.
Coordinate and facilitate the message design process.
Develop the series message brief.
Liaise with the Advocacy Unit for the incorporation of the advocacy campaign messages into the series.
Liaise with print manager to ensure alignment of messages
Liaise with radio coordinator to ensure that the radio programmes are in line with the message brief.
Liaise with the campaigns about the timing of the series and incorporating the campaign messages, look and feel and materials in series
Development and implementation of the adult television and social media interventions
Keep abreast of new formats
Commission research into new formats when necessary
Pilot new formats when necessary
Commission writers.
Commission producers.
Commission testing research.
Oversee the writing process;
Facilitate and coordinate the script review process with key stakeholders and research.
Review scripts and storylines.
Consolidate and moderate feedback from testing, internal staff, SABC, funders and expert consultants.
Oversee translation process.
Oversee the production from pre-to post production bringing in other expertise where necessary and ensuring involvement of campaigns, Soul City and other key stakeholders. .
Identify opportunities for innovation in accordance with global, national and regional sector trends.
Liaise with the Marketing Unit to support the development and implementation of marketing strategies and activities for the various projects.
Research, develop and implement social media platforms to support the Soul City’s offering.
Provide the necessary technical support to the Print Manager for the development of print materials.
Provide the necessary technical support and oversee the Radio coordinator’s outputs for the development and production of radio programmes.
Stakeholder Management
Build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and ensure stakeholder satisfaction.
Ensure support and buy-in for the adult’s television and social media interventions.
Financial Management/Governance
In consultation with the Executive: Media, prepare the annual budget for all adult television and social media interventions.
Prepare expenditure projections as and when required.
Monitor monthly actual expenditure against budgets, identify variances and ensure that the necessary follow up action is taken.
Comply with all financial policies and procedures (including procurement).
Manage service providers/suppliers in accordance with the terms and conditions of the relevant contracts.
Undertake spending with due regard to value for money and ensure that service provider pricing is competitive.
Identify and adequately manage internal and external high level risks to the organisation and programmes.
Prepare documents and presentations for Board requirements.
Human Resources Management
Engage with the TV & Social Media Coordinator and the Radio coordinator on the organisation’s vision and values to ensure a shared understanding.
Effectively direct, guide and manage the TV & Social Media Coordinator.
Develop the capacity of the TV & Social Media Coordinator to ensure that he has the necessary knowledge and skills to perform his functions optimally.
Hold the TV & Social Media Coordinator accountable for all deliverables and responsibilities.
Take ownership and accountability for all deliverables and responsibilities assigned to the position of TV & Social Media Manager: Adult.
In consultation with the Executive: Media, identify own training and coaching requirements to achieve optimal performance.
Contribute to the development of a committed media team with individuals who work well together and provide each other with mutual support, assistance and cooperation.
Comply with all HR policies and procedures.
Participate in the management of the organisation.
General
Prepare reports as and when required.
Prepare and deliver presentations at relevant international and local meetings and forums.
Prepare papers and articles for conferences, journals, magazines, newspapers, books and websites.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A post graduate degree or an equivalent qualification in communication, education, health, public health, social science or social work.
At least 5 years experience in the health and/or development sector.
Extensive experience in working with media development, especially TV and Radio.
Experience in developing educational materials.
Experience in the role of executive producer for a TV drama series will be an added advantage
At least 3 years experience managing budgets and finances in excess of R1 million
per annum.
Minimum of 3 years experience at a managerial level, including managing teams.
Experience in writing donor reports.
COMPETENCIES
Sound knowledge of public health.
Advanced knowledge of the edutainment development process.
Sound project management skills and understanding of project management processes and methodologies.
Advanced proficiency in MS Office - including word, excel, powerpoint and outlook.
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
Communication skills in other South African languages is essential.
Excellent report writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Good team player.
Self-motivated, a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision.
