LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS (2 POSTS)

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is one of Africa's most eminent health research organizations. With a history of more than 50 years, IHI is an independent, non-profit organization, registered in Tanzania and led by Tanzanians. IHI conducts a wide range of health-related research, including biomedical and environmental studies, trials of drugs, vaccines and diagnostics, health-systems research, and monitoring and evaluation. With its registered office in Ifakara town, Morogoro Region, and a coordinating office in Dar es Salaam, IHI operates two branch offices in Bagamoyo and Rufiji. 

IHI invites applications from interested, suitable and qualified Tanzanians to fill the following positions in its Phase III TB clinical trial project (NC 006). Successful candidates will be stationed at Mwananyamala Hospital in Dar es Salaam except for the Lab Technicians who will be based in Bagamoyo.

LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS (2 POSTS)

Duties and Responsibilities


· Prepare samples, examine and perform various laboratory tests in accordance to a study protocol, laboratory manuals and other designated Working Instructions in a modern TB research laboratory.

· Keeping accurate records and documentation of test results, as well as proper storage both documents and laboratory samples.

· Assisting in the preparation and/or updating of laboratory documentation, particularly relating to standard operating procedures (SOPs), Working Instruction (WIs) and other laboratory or study related documents.

· Timely relaying of test results to relevant clinical research team, who use the information to diagnose, treat or follow-up participants in the clinical trial.

· Entering participants’ data into Laboratory Database as per study specific requirements.

· Maintaining, updating and sharing of professional knowledge and taking responsibility for continuing professional development (CPD) through training one`s self and/or participating in training of new staff.

· Perform other Institutional duties as maybe assigned by Laboratory Manager, Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) or Principal Investigator (PI)

Qualifications and Experience

· Bachelors of Science (BSc) in either Microbiology, Laboratory sciences, Molecular.

· Biology &Biotechnology or any BSc in related field from a recognized university.

· At least two years of working experience in a Biomedical Laboratory.

· Previous work in TB laboratory is an added advantage.

· A proven ability to work in a team under minimal supervision.

· Well written and oral communication skills in English & Swahili.
