About the Position:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Internet Policy, the Policy Advisor will join the Internet Society’s Global Public Policy Team to focus on Internet governance policy and advocacy. The applicant should have a passion for the Internet Society’s core principles and substantial knowledge of Internet governance issues and Internet public policy. Specifically, a sound understanding of the UN system, policy development processes, and how the Internet technical community (IETF, ICANN, RIRs, etc.) works is essential.

The incumbent will be responsible to:
  • Contribute to the development, coordination and presentation of policy positions that support ISOC’s global Internet principles;
  • Support ISOC’s engagement in Internet governance discussions and work closely with key partners in the technical community, civil society, industry, government and international organizations in a manner that maintains the high standards of the Society;
  • Support and participate in key international Internet governance meetings such as WSIS, the IGF, ITU and UNESCO, among others;
  • Work closely with the ISOC global community of chapters, members, and partners to achieve the Internet Society mission;
  • Assist in crafting high-quality written materials that broaden ISOC’s thought leadership in Internet public policy.
This position will be located in the Internet Society’s Geneva, Switzerland office.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master-level qualification in International Relations or related field and/or 1-3 years relevant public policy experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with public policy issues, in particular ICT policy and Internet governance topics;
  • Understanding of international public policy development and strong familiarity with international and intergovernmental organizations;
  • Special interest and experience in Internet growth and trends in emerging markets and developing countries;
  • Experience and confidence necessary to represent the Internet Society effectively and professionally in international public policy forums;
  • Capacity to work in a multicultural environment and to work effectively across different departments;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English a must. Proficiency in at least one additional language is desirable;
  • Familiarity and comfort with Internet-based communication and work tools and working in active on-line communication environments;
  • The willingness and ability to travel extensively;
  • Commitment to ISOC’s organizational mission, vision and values.
Compensation and benefit package for this position will be competitively commensurate with the level of the position and the successful applicant’s qualifications.
