CHAIR OF THE IPCC

CHAIR OF THE IPCC

The IPCC's job is to make sure that complaints against the police are responded to effectively; to ensure that the public are confident about the way in which complaints and fatal incidents involving the police are dealt with and that lessons are learnt and action taken. It does this by using its own investigators to investigate the most serious cases, acting as an appeal body for those cases it has not investigated itself and setting monitoring standards for how the police themselves deal with complaints.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to Chair the IPCC. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leadership within an organisation of a similar size and complexity to the IPCC and sound experience in strategic and financial planning. You will have delivered results in driving change in a constantly changing environment, and be a confident relationship-builder.

This is a challenging role and one which, as the public face of the IPCC, will often be conducted in the full glare of media and public scrutiny but one that will offer an unparalleled opportunity to steer a fascinating and complex organisation through significant internal and external change. You must demonstrate judgement, political awareness, resilience and responsiveness and above all, be an outstanding communicator. Crucially, you will have the charisma and leadership skills to steer the organisation through the many challenges ahead.

The IPCC Chair will receive £60,000 per annum plus applicable expenses. This is a non-executive role and the time commitment will be around 3 days per week. Location is flexible, but the post holder will be expected to spend the majority of their time in the National Office in London.

By law, the Chair may not have served with the police, been the Chair or a member of SOCA or been a Commissioner or officer of Customs at any time.

In line with Government proposals to increase Parliamentary Scrutiny of appointments to key posts, the preferred candidate for the post of the IPCC Chair may be required to appear before a Parliamentary Committee prior to appointment.
