Flying Kites Global - Kenya Country Manager

Flying Kites Global (www.flyingkitesglobal.org) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering the world’s poorest children to become leaders of their generation through education, advocacy, and excellence.

Flying Kites operates a children’s home, primary school, and two community advocacy programs, and is currently constructing a library and clinic in Njabini, Kenya at the foot of the Aberdare Mountains. Flying Kites provides extraordinary care to 26 children, educate 68 community children, and cycle roughly 100 volunteers annually.

With its global headquarters in the U.S., incredible support from like-minded organizations and individuals worldwide, Flying Kites is growing at a pace that requires a dynamic and talented team of individuals prepared to invest themselves in a noble and fulfilling undertaking.

To contribute to its growth, Flying Kites is now seeking to hire a Country Manager to lead its personnel team and partners in Kenya.

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, Flying Kites in Kenya, the incumbent will play a leading role in providing world class strategic leadership to the organization. The Country Manager will help provide strategic leadership, direct and oversee the organization’s operations to ensure its sustained growth and expansion.

The Country Manager will be responsible for organization, planning, financial management, fund development, programme implementation, staff leadership, public relations and the overall operational success of Flying Kites in Kenya.

This position will be based in Njabini, Kinangop.

Key Responsibilities

The key roles of the Country Manager will be to:
  • Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors in Kenya and the US to assure proper governance of the organization
  • Lead and manage the organization and its personnel within policies established by the Board of Directors
  • Execute the organization’s management of financial and operational systems, procedures and controls
  • Responsible for oversight of all planning, finance, program management, public relations, administrative operations, and human resources
  • Generate partnerships and resources through effective fundraising and event management and execution.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with the private sector, relevant public departments and Ministries, the Community, local and international volunteers
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, management or education
  • One to two years management experience in business, education or non-profits
  • Possess a strong spirit for community service and share Flying Kites’s passion to raise children with daring vision
  • Proven experience working with or caring for children
  • Demonstrated command in ICT and well versed in social media
  • Good knowledge of financial, marketing and human resource management principles
  • Creative, positive and dedicated
  • Well honed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrable leadership skills with strong intellect and vision
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Swahili an asset
  • High level of proficiency in office desktop and Internet applications.
