Group Director: Corporate Services

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

Job Description:

Main function: Responsible for Finance, Human Resources and Office Management at TI’s International Secretariat

Reporting lines: Reporting to the Managing Director; Member of the Management Group

Contract: 2-year contract, with option for extension

Starting date: asap

Location: Berlin, Germany; with limited international travel

Key responsibilities:

The Group Director – Corporate Services is responsible for managing and enhancing the internal organisational/financial infrastructure and processes that enable Transparency International to fulfil its mission.

The Corporate Services Group has 20 staff and provides support to TI Secretariat (TI-S) with around 140 international staff and interns. TI is registered in Germany and operates under the German law.

The Group Director manages the following functions:

Financial Management and Oversight

Working with the Director of Finance, manage all financial and business planning activities, business policies, accounting practices and project support, including:

  • Review and analysis of financial accounting and reports
  • Organisational planning and budgeting process
  • Overall financial oversight and monitoring
  • Strategic financial planning and analysis
  • Financial risk management
  • Support and advice provided to the MD for decision making
  • Ensuring that relevant financial data is presented to the MD, Board and management group.

Human Resources

Working with the Director of Human Resources, manage and oversee human resources, including:

  • Recruitment, hiring, and compensation
  • Benefits administration and oversight
  • Policy review
  • Job classification
  • Professional training and development, including new employee induction
  • Retention strategies
  • Engagement with the TI S Works Council
  • Regulatory oversight and legal compliance
  • Support for international staff
  • Ensuring that the human resource function is properly resourced and represented within the management group
  • Developing HR strategy for the TI Secretariat and TI globally

Office Management

Working with a team, overseeing administrative functions and ensuring an optimal working environment for all staff:

  • Overseeing office operations, including the maintenance of an Operations Manual containing all relevant policies and processes
  • Managing relevant office rental and vendor contracts
  • Events planning and logistics

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • A university degree in business, management or finance. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA, CPA or a relevant graduate qualification.
  • Extensive experience in leading management roles in operations, finance, human resources or a combination of the above. Several years NGO experience an advantage.
  • Expertise in financial planning and analysis, budgeting and organisational development
  • Familiarity with IFRS
  • Thorough knowledge of labour law and familiarity with a employee representation body would be an advantage
  • Proven supervisory and leadership skills to manage a diverse, multicultural team which provides operational services for an international organization
  • Resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Excellent people skills, and the ability to partner, including within TI’s own dynamic leadership team
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; other languages especially German are an asset
