Head of Asia Regional Desk Save the Children UK

Job Purpose
- Represent and advocate to Save the Children International (SCI) on behalf of Save the Children UK (SCUK) in the Asia regions, be the key source of knowledge and information for all countries and programmes for children in Asia and primary contact for regular interface with SCI on Asia programming including representing SC UK at regional fora and other programming and strategy meetings of the global Save the Children community
- Be a key player in the development of Save the Children UK’s strategy and planning for the Asia region.
- Play a leading role in the preparation and successful transfer into SCI of the Asian country programmes
- Be the key focal point and internal “broker” within Save the Children UK on all substantive issues relating the Asia region liaising closely with global programmes (especially emergencies, operational support and government partnerships), policy, media and communications, fundraising and UK HR.
- Monitor and manage SCUK’s strategic and funding interests in the Asia region, ensuring SCUK’s portfolio of projects is appropriately and effectively managed and policy and advocacy messages are reflected in SCI strategies and programming, working collaboratively with the relevant counterparts in SCI and escalating issues or risks to SCUK Directors as appropriate.
- Support the Government Partnerships team in donor relationship management, liaising and advocating with donors on the Asia region as required.
- Have oversight of aid and development issues in the Asia region, undertaking regional analysis
- Proactively engage with SCI on programme development and opportunities in the Asia region.
- Implement risk management mechanisms for SCUK in the Asia region and work closely with the Security Manager to ensure that security risks are monitored and addressed
- Coordinate the monitoring, collation and dissemination of data on SCI’s operations in Asia, ensuring that action is taken within SCUK and advocating for action within SCI as required.
- Be the key internal source of information and advice for the organisation on the SCI’s offices in Asia including their strategies and plans and SCUK’s particular interests in each programme.

Accountabilities
- Proactively review and further develop the Regional Desk function and the ways of working to meet the needs and interests of SCUK and align effectively with the SCI.
- Build strong and effective relationships between SCUK and the SCI and its Asia regional offices and country programmes at both strategic and operational levels
- Support the Grants & Compliance Manager in ensuring that SCUK funds in the Asia region are managed effectively to include early oversight of potential problems and that timely and swift mitigation actions are taken to address these.
- Lead and input into reviews and consultations, both within SCUK and those undertaken by SCI, of systems and procedures and ensure that these are refined and developed accordingly
- Assist the Save the Children UK Director of Operational Support and Global Programmes Director in further planning and designing the Global Programmes department based on the “real world” learning with the first and second Asia regions
- Develop strong working relationships between the regional desk, operational support more generally, government partnerships, policy, fundraising and UK HR to ensure the delivery of high levels of customer focus and satisfaction between the SCI and Save the Children UK.

Essential Criteria
- Strong understanding of programme management within complex organisations
- Experience in advocacy and relationship management at senior levels
- Experience working globally in an INGO environment including management and operational experience at country level
- Good situational agility skills with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability in order to respond to changing needs
- Ability and willingness to travel
- A commitment and interest in the aims of Save the Children
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Well developed team player skills with a proven track record in team building
- Very good customer focus orientation
- Experience of strategy development and monitoring the performance of operations against strategic objectives
- Understanding of effective grant management practices and donor compliance issues.
