Lutheran World Federation / Department for World Service Kenya Program is seeking to recruit Kenyan nationals for the following positions.

Deputy Child Protection Officer (Kakuma based)

Reporting directly to the Child Protection Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that Unaccompanied/Separated/orphaned children are identified and successfully fostered upon arrival in Kakuma refugee camp.
  • Assess and identify the legal and psychosocial needs of children in the camp
  • In collaboration with other agencies, assist foster families obtain documents for legal custody of children in their care.
  • In collaboration with other agencies facilitate reunification of unaccompanied/separated children with their relatives.
  • Manage and maintain documentation and records of cases for legal custody for the purposes of follow up and referral.
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly/quarterly and feature reports as required.
  • Collaborate with other LWF sectors and implementing partners to ensure smooth Coordination of activities
Qualifications:
  • Must have a degree Law
  • At least 2 years experience in child protection in a humanitarian setting
  • Experience in developing child protection tools and facilitating trainings on child protection and related issues.
  • Post graduate diploma in child care and development will be an advantage.
  • Training in child counseling skills is an added advantage
  • Experience in proposal development, planning and implementation of child focused projects.
  • Excellent communication, organization and presentation and leadership skills
  • Experience in the use of computer packages
Deputy Gender Equity and Human Rights Officer (Kakuma based)

Reporting directly to the Gender Equity and Human Rights Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal and technical guidance on human rights promotion and protection and gender mainstreaming.
  • Manage the assessment, documentation and resolution of SGBV cases
  • Identify community training needs and in consultation with the unit members and organize relevant training.
  • Monitor and analyze emerging trends in the field of gender and human rights promotion and development.
  • Lobby & advocate for inclusion of gender issues in Planning, implementation monitoring & evaluation in all sectors.
  • Supervise other unit staff in their duties and responsibilities
  • Write timely and accurate unit reports
Qualifications/Experience:
  • Degree in Law
  • Post graduate training in Gender and Human Rights will be an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years experience in the field of gender equity and human rights protections in a humanitarian setting.
  • Experience in issues of GBV, prevention and protection
  • Excellent communication, organization and presentation and leadership skills.
  • Good understanding of protection instruments.
  • Experience in the use of computers and statistical packages.
Education Coordinator (Dadaab based)

The Education Coordinator will be based in Dadaab Camp and shall be responsible for coordinating and overseeing operational plans in the Education Department. The incumbent will report directly to the Area Coordinator or her designate, while working closely on daily basis with Education staff & other sectors of LWF.

Duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinate and monitor all the activities of the all units of the education project in Dadaab refugee camp, which include primary education, preschool education, Special Needs Education and school feeding program.
  • Leading the sector staff through effective delegation, training, mentoring and motivating them to work with collective responsibility, accountability in ensuring provision of quality education.
  • Ensuring up to date implementation of MOUs and LOU with implementing partners on areas of strategic collaboration such as WFP, MOE (GOK) and UNHCR.
  • Managing Sector Financial Expenditure of the sector to ensure it is in line with proposed activities and ensuring due diligence in all sector procurements and contracts.
  • Preparing project proposals and other relevant project document such as work plans, logical frameworks and Realistic Budgets to different short term and long term donors for the education project.
  • Continuing to investigate gender imbalances in education service provision in the schools, and designing and implementing initiatives aimed at increasing enrolment and improving retention and performance of girls in the schools.
  • Supervision of the exams registration exercise, Coordination of exam setting and administration.
  • Identifying staff training needs and making proper managements for in-service training and in-house training of staff at all levels in the education.
  • Overall management of school supplies (teaching and learning materials which includes timely procurement, general distribution and monitoring of usage.
  • Prepare monthly reports, quarterly and annual reports for the education sector against planned activities for internal consumption and to Specific donors.
  • Work closely with other NGOs, Government Education officials, School Management committees, Refugee Education Committees and the communities to ensure to ensure effective participation of all stake holders
Professional Qualification:
  • An advanced degree in education is the preferred qualification. An Education or social science degree in a related discipline with vast relevant experience could also be considered.
  • Proven training in curriculum development and implementation, and educational administration.
  • Proven academic or on-job training and understanding of the Project Cycle model in managing humanitarian assistance.
Relevant Experience:
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in formal education programs for refugees or rural communities. Experience gained within an international humanitarian NGO will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, administration and documentation skills in the management of educational institutions or programs consisting of primary education.
  • Experience in proposal and report writing and excellent computer skills.
  • Experience in Training of Trainers/Facilitators skills (TOT & TOF) an advantage.
