Programme Coordinator: Middle East and North Africa region (MENA)
Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Job Description
Job title: Programme Coordinator, full time position
Starting date: June 15th 2011
Duration: 2 years
Reporting lines: Reports to the Senior Programme Coordinator, Africa and the Middle East Department
Location: Berlin, Germany; with some international travel.
Job grade: Programme Coordinator
Key responsibilities:
These will include, but are not exclusively limited to:
Implementation of the USAID funded ACTION (Addressing Corruption Through Information and Organized Networking) phase of the AFME programmes. This shall be mainly focused on access to information research, advocacy, use of new media and social media, network building among young activists, use of the UNCAC and National Integrity System assessments of the MENA region,
Essential tasks include the following
- Budget management
- Project management support to TI’s partners in the MENA region
- Support to MENA advocacy actions
- Support with media work and profiling of TI in the MENA region
- General MENA-related research and similar enquiries
- Writing speeches and presentations related to the MENA region as necessary.
- Travel in the MENA region necessary to best fulfil some of the above tasks and objectives
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- University degree , or equivalent qualification, in relevant field (international relations / development, African Studies / Oriental Studies, social sciences, public policy);
- Good knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa region, including of policy, good governance and anti-corruption issues, and pertinent national, regional and international stakeholders and decision makers;
- Several years of relevant work experience, including at least 3 years spent working in or on the region;
- Experience in programme management, including complex financial budget management;
- Experience in working with civil society and NGO capacity building;
- Excellent communication, team work and intercultural skills
- Fluency in English and French, knowledge of Arabic an advantage.
Additional skills
- Knowledge of new media, social media, access to information campaigns, youth-involvement programmes a distinct advantage
TI Secretariat reserves the right to appoint to another staff level subject to education and qualifications.
