ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CAD (Re-advertisement)

Council agreed on 3 September 2010 that the Communication and Study Skills Unit will move to the School of Media, Information and Communication in the Faculty of Arts and Education as part of the re-structuring of the academic division of the University of Botswana in 2011.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) provide academic leadership through enhancement of the teaching, research and community service activities of the Unit; (ii) teach (a) undergraduate courses in Communication Studies; (b) postgraduate courses in Communication Studies in the future; (c) Communication and Academic Literacy courses to first- and post first-year students from any of the following Faculties: Arts and Education, Natural and Applied Sciences, Engineering and the Built Environment, Health Sciences, Business and Economics, and Social Sciences; (iii) initiate, develop and establish research programmes with other staff in the Unit; (iv) carry out any responsibilities as may be assigned by the Deputy Director of the Unit.

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) a PhD degree in any of the following areas: Communication Studies, Linguistics/Applied Linguistics, English for Specific Purposes; (ii) at least 5 years university teaching experience or equivalent; (iii) at least 12 publications, 8 of which are peer reviewed journal papers; (iv) lead and/or single authored in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (v) evidence of academic leadership and evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community; (vi) the ability to attract funding from international sources and this should be reflected in the profile; (vii) computer skills.
