Mount Saint Vincent University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Faculty of Education, with the appointment to be effective July 2012.

As the largest Education program in Nova Scotia, Mount Saint Vincent University's Faculty of Education offers a dynamic and progressive Bachelor of Education degree to over 250 full-time students. Over 800 Masters students are enrolled in seven graduate programs (Curriculum Studies, Educational Foundations, Elementary Education, Educational Psychology, Literacy Education, Studies in Lifelong Learning, and School Psychology) that creatively combine theory and practice. Launched in 2011, the Faculty offers a PhD in Educational Studies in collaboration with two other universities in the region. The Faculty of Education hosts two research chairs and has a long history of offering many of its programs regionally and internationally.

Reporting to the Vice-President (Academic) as part of the Mount's senior executive team, the Dean of Education will guide the development of academic programs and research within the Faculty and the professional community. The Dean of the Faculty of Education will be a respected and innovative educator with academic qualifications and research achievements relevant to the academic mission of the Faculty, administrative experience, knowledge of educational policy and the professional environment, and the skill to build strong relationships with a variety of external stakeholders including school boards, government and other Faculties of Education. She/he will be an excellent communicator who will facilitate and enhance the endeavours of the Faculty and the University, through an open and collegial style, dynamic and creative leadership, outstanding management skills, and a flexible approach to problem solving. Experience building collaborative teams and working with a diverse range of internal and external partners will be important assets in this role.
