Fellow, WVI Fellowship Programme

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Similar to the private sector, the NGO world is experiencing a War for Talent. In addition, historically World Vision has not put effort into developing and retaining emerging leaders. This programme is designed to combat both the war for talent and emerging leader development by attracting, developing and retaining talented young professional who have an interest in international humanitarian work.

The purpose of the WVI Fellowship is to attract talented Entry-Jr level professionals in need of career development. The Fellowship Programme will empower driven, dedicated and passionate individuals to become project coordinators and skilled researchers. Through collaboration and contribution to projects, Fellows' experience will be strengthened and professionalism developed. Fellows will be mentored and validated for leadership ability and natural talents by identifying skills, assessing strengths, acknowledging potential and empowering for success. Fellows are highly encouraged and expected to be committed to the organisation after contract has been fulfilled and rotations completed
      PROGRAMME SCOPE:
    • The WVI Fellowship Programme is a 24-month rotational assignment providing opportunity for professional work at World Vision International.
    • The rotations, lasting six months each will be split between three departments; two of choice and one in the field [whether an Area Development Programme, National Office, Regional Office or Support Office].
    • Throughout each rotation, Fellows will be assigned project work and proposed activities, identified by each department.

      These assignments are intended to:
    • Broaden understanding of the international, NGO field of work
    • Provide opportunities to apply passion, interests and skills in a variety of business processes
    • Validate potential for professional leadership and personal career development, and
    • Identify a good fit between an individual’s skills and the needs of the departments throughout the partnership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Network and collaborate with managers to secure and effectively maintain rotations
    • Negotiate proposed assignments; develop Performance Agreements and Terms of Reference
    • Project Management/Research-as defined in departments Terms of Reference
    • Ongoing proactive career development including mentoring, training and long term goal setting
    • Evaluate and provide feedback on each rotational assignment, and overall programme upon completion
    • Involve self in Professional Development Programme activities as apart of the People & Culture Department
    • Engage self in Department activities as member of their team


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
      REQUIRED:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent experience
    • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
    • Must have the ability to work independently as well as an effective team member.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with individuals and represent World Vision, in verbal and written forms

      PREFERRED:
    • International humanitarian work
