Manager — Simandou JV and Group Reporting

Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK. Rio Tinto's business is in finding, mining and processing mineral resources. Major products are aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt) and iron ore.
The Simandou Project in south-east Guinea is a large development project within the Rio Tinto Iron Ore portfolio. It will consist of developing a deep water port, extensive rail infrastructure and a large mine of approximately 100 mtpa.
The Role:
Reporting to the Financial Controller based in Guinea and leading a team of 3 the Manager - Simandou JV and Group Reporting will be responsible for:
  • Simandou Joint Venture reporting including cash calls and monthly reporting
  • Statutory reporting for Rio Tinto Iron Ore Atlantic and UK listed group entities and the Quarterly Hyperion reporting for the Consolidated Simandou Project
  • Assisting the CFO and Financial Controller in ensuring Simandou meets all group and statutory accounting standards and practices
  • Reviewing financials, including their Caseware submissions, to ensure they are in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS and group reporting policies
  • Overviewing of audit and sign off of financial statements of UK listed Simandou entities
  • Confirmation of Intercompany balances
  • Reviewing P11D & PSA information to Payroll & Tax Dept
  • Identifying process improvements/enhancements and process refinements in Financial accounting
  • Coaching, motivating and developing direct reports including accountants, accounts payable and treasury staff
A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or a related field with a relevant Accountancy qualification (ICA or CPA
  • Significant previous experience in a similar role and in preparing financial statements for large companies
  • Experience in managing a small Finance team
  • Experience in Hyperion reporting preferred
  • High level of knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS and accounting standards
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills in order to deal with a wide variety of individuals at all levels, particularly in the area of customer service and problem resolution.
  • Solid planning, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
  • Proactive approach in creating career development opportunities for staff
  • Excellent project management and analysis skills
  • Strong knowledge of (MS Office to produce spreadsheets, graphics, presentations and other data
  • Fluent English. French is a plus
