Public-Private Mix DOTS and NGO Support Coordinator

University Research Co, LLC (URC) is a professional organisation dedicated to building systems to empower communities to solve their health and social issues. In 4 countries in Southern Africa, URC manages 9 health projects funded by the US Government (USAID and CDC). We work primarily, but not exclusively, in the areas of HIV and TB prevention, testing and treatment. We have over 150 employees regionally.


Funded by USAID/South Africa, the South Africa TB Project, currently in its 3rd year, is a 5-year technical assistance project that works to strengthen TB control and prevention initiatives. The project focuses on providing assistance in strengthening TB care initiatives at provincial, district and community level, as well as strengthening the health system to manage the pressures exerted by the HIV and AIDS epidemic.

Public-Private Mix DOTS and NGO Support Coordinator


In this role, the successful candidate will strengthen the management of TB and TB/HIV in the private sector through innovative public-private mix DOTS models involving the private healthcare sector, business (including the mining sector) and traditional healers. He/she will be expected to work with district municipalities to strengthen the involvement of local employers and private general practitioners in TB and TB/HIV management, as well as with the community and district-level grantees funded under the project to strengthen linkages with the provinces (which will ensure grantee activities support provincial and district TB control objectives). In addition, the successful candidate will support the NGO team to develop and oversee grantee implementation plans, in line with USAID and Government’s TB control objectives, will liaise with the NTP in the promotion and strengthening of DOTS in the private sector and will work with medical and nursing schools in the promotion of TB. He/she will assist partners and sub-grantees with the design and implementation of public-private strategies and interventions, direct formative and qualitative research to identify and pre-test models for PPM DOTS in the different stakeholder groups and conduct periodic evaluations to measure the effectiveness of various PPM interventions.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science/Social Sciences/Psychology
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to write and edit clearly and concisely
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • The ability to travel locally.


The salaries will be commensurate with experience and qualifications (exempt).
