Senior Director, Alliances and Business Development - EMEA

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the VP, Global Alliances and Business Development, this individual will lead the EMEA Alliances and Strategic Business Development team and be responsible for developing and executing the overall regional strategy to recruit innovative application and content partners to BlackBerry smartphone and tablet devices. This position will also be responsible for aligning Business Development activities with regional management, marketing and sales to meet both local and global objectives. In addition, you will need to inspire and connect the alliance community to create a thriving self sustaining ecosystem, while providing the community with a vision and a direction. You will collaborate with each country's Managing Director to help shape strategies for each country and also be a strong advocate for the region to help shape the wider global alliance strategy within RIM. You will be expected to work independently to develop existing and establish new key relationships while providing mentorship to the team and work within broad guidelines to independently initiate new programs and partnership opportunities. This individual will need to motivate, direct, and utilize resources within the greater organization to achieve the goals of the Global Alliances and Business Development organization's strategic partner base.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
  • Drive strategy across all partner categories for the region, and work with the EMEA teams for global partner recruitment and management; work closely with Developer Relations and App World teams to ensure top tier support
  • Ensure any and all obstacles are removed and key platform requirements are met to garner broad industry support
  • Identify target accounts, develop and drive pipelines for the various categories in region, account plan, execute deals, grow App World revenue, and actively manage target accounts holistically (with RIM stakeholders); establish joint RIM-target account business plan/roadmap
  • Negotiate and execute partnership contracts. Requires a solid understanding of technical, business and legal terms to maximize partnership potential and minimize risk. Oversee commercial aspects of new and existing long-term contracts.
  • Partner relationship management to ensure partnerships reach maximum potential. Identify additional opportunities within RIM for partners and work with respective teams for smooth execution. Program assessment to identify if RIM achieved optimal profitability/results from a strategic partnership
  • Work with internal teams (Project Management/Finance/Engineering/Marketing) to assess the pros and cons of partnership opportunities. This involves both technical and business feasibility analysis including cost estimates, financial analysis, risk analysis and revenue forecasting
  • Maintain high visibility of the Strategic Business Development team, by communicating and executing its initiatives with cross functional teams to ensure alignment of goals for strategic partners
  • Accountable for the profitability of Strategic Development contracts.
  • With periodic direction from VP-level management on key objectives, you will be required to make independent decisions and drive new initiatives with little-to-no direct support. The decisions will be made based on top-level goals and targets, and you will also be required to effectively prioritize and manage resources effectively.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven leadership and execution capabilities are necessary for this role
  • Strong contract negotiation experience; ability to establish custom contracts minimizing risk and securing favorable terms.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with partners, customers, competitors and suppliers at all levels of an organization
  • Proven ability to understand the difference between a trend and a fad, and then develop a business plan to capitalize on the trend
  • Understand technically feasible solutions to drive projects to completion
  • Experience in Wireless or Telecom industry
  • Degree in Business, Law, Finance or equivalent experience
  • Formal training/education in Engineering/Computer Science discipline or equivalent experience
  • Product Management experience is an asset
