FEMNET is a pan-African regional women’s rights network that has been in existence for 24 years and has been at the forefront championing gender equality, equity and women’s rights through delivery of critical information, and strengthening linkages and collaboration among women’s organizations.

To consolidate its work and move it to the next level FEMNET with financial support from African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) is seeking to recruit suitable persons on a 3-year renewable full time contract in the following vacant positions to be based in Nairobi-Kenya:

Head of Capacity Building

Ref: FNT-HOCB 2012
The Person will:
  • Through consultation with other Programme Staff members and key stakeholders design and develop Capacity Building Programme for the Network.
  • Initiate and implement capacity development initiatives and these could be organized at the regional, sub- regional or national level.
  • Take the lead in mobilizing resources required to implement the Capacity Building Programme activities.
  • Identify key partners, resource persons and experts in different fields to support the implementation of the Capacity Building Programme of FEMNET.
  • Put in place a monitoring mechanism to assess the extent to which the capacity building programme activities are contributing to improved organizing around women’s Rights in Africa and to ensure progress toward desired goals
  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership to ensure quality implementation, and further development of the Capacity Building Programme.
  • Work in partnership with other Programmes to identify training needs for staff and members and coordinate its delivery for FEMNET staff generally and for individual FEMNET staff
  • Work with management in programmatic monitoring and evaluation, and continual quality improvement.
  • Document best practices and prepare communications for different audiences, including the general public,
  • Develop and maintain existing networks and partnerships with projects’ stakeholders and partners.
  • Advise FEMNET on capacity issues that the Network would take on arising from the information collected through the capacity building activities throughout Africa.
  • Ensure that the narrative and financial reports for the Capacity Building Programme are compiled and submitted in a timely manner to keep all stake holders informed.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned.
We are looking for:
  • Be a masters degree holder in relevant social sciences with additional relevant trainings
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience at international, regional or sub- regional level
  • Experience in organizing and providing/ supporting training and experience sharing events
  • Proven experience in, exposure to, and capability for collaborative work, nurturing of networks and alliances and motivate people.
  • Sound knowledge on gender and its mainstreaming strategies, leadership development and generally women’s rights issues in Africa
  • Strong English and French writing skills for report and proposal development
  • Very good communication skills both written and spoken including public speaking and giving presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and experience working with multi- cultural teams
  • Highly motivated, result oriented and self-driven person with understanding of due process, financial transparency and accountability, equity issues and how they relate to human rights.
  • A proven encourager and promoter of an environment of support conducive to cooperation, collegiality, consultation and collaboration
  • Willing and able to travel widely mainly in the Africa region
  • Willing to adhere to FEMNET’s beliefs, values and principles that guide its work and programming framework
Knowledge Management Officer

Ref: FNT- KMO 2012
The Person will:
  • Develop and coordinate a coherent monitoring, evaluation and learning system for FEMNET’s programmeme and calendar of events.
  • Prepare performance indicators for the organization and its programme areas
  • Prepare of Annual work plan for the organization
  • Preparation of Midyear and Annual M&E reviews
  • Report periodically on the impact of organization’s operations to include Activity reports and Annual
  • Develop and publish essential tools, manuals and materials to be used in the different activities of the Capacity Building Programme
  • Collect and disseminate information published worldwide on issues affecting women particularly in Africa;
  • Collaborate with other women’s organisations through information sharing, by exchange of newsletters and other literature both locally and internationally;
  • Maintain up-to-date databases of women’s organisations for networking purposes;
  • Facilitate research and information needs of users, staff members and the general public;
  • Re-organising and running the Documentation Centre to facilitate access to materials by members, focal points, board members, secretariat staff, funders, researchers, and the general public;
  • Create, and continuously update the Documentation Centre’s database;
  • Catalogue and index all types of materials and reports for easy storage and retrieval on the database;
  • Seeking out new source material for the Centre from relevant organisations, institutions, and publishing houses;
  • Publicise materials available in the Centre and setting it in a manner that encourage the broadest possible use;
  • Preparing quarterly and half-yearly progress reports on work plans;
  • Raise funds for production of materials and their distribution;
We are looking for:
  • A bachelors degree in relevant field from a credible University;
  • Not less than 3 years demonstrated relevant experience in creating a learning environment,
  • Ability to design and coordinate adoption of M & E instruments,
  • Able to train and coach organisations to adopt and manage effective planning;
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate processes and development and produce essential training tools and manuals;
  • Strategic Thinking, planning skills and excellent Communication skills,
  • Experience in working internationally and with teams in a multicultural environment
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong curiosity and capacity for innovation
  • Available to occasionally travel within and outside Africa
  • Strong English and French speaking and writing skills
Member Liaison Officer

Ref: FNT- MLO 2012

The Person will:
  • Work with other team members to coordinate FEMNET’s membership to ensure that FEMNET meets its obligations to its constituency
  • Devise and raise funds for projects that will provide technical support to members
  • Devise and implement approved membership drive strategy, guidelines and policies
  • Establish and maintain administrative systems for FEMNET’s members including handling registration of new members and renewals and providing analysis of such records quarterly and to be the interface between FEMNET and its members to ensure symbiotic information sharing
  • Source for and share information with members of opportunities for training and fundraising that will be beneficial to members
  • Facilitate cross networking amongst FEMNET members on the one hand and FEMNET and its members on the other hand.
  • Support members in identifying and developing best practice stories and sharing them with other members
  • Identify opportunities to expand FEMNET’s support to its membership, increase members’ use of Website and other communication channels
  • Work with other programmeme staff to raise funds and organize the Triennial FEMNET General Assembly and Programmeming Conference
  • Represent FEMNET at selected meetings, conferences and other relevant events
  • Advise FEMNET on membership issues that the Network would take on arising from the information collected through the capacity building activities
  • Any other duties as may be assigned,
We are looking for:
  • A bachelors degree in social sciences or related field from a recognized University;
  • Not less than 3 years relevant work experience in a busy environment preferably in an INGO;
  • Ability to devise and raise funds for projects that will provide technical support to members,
  • Ability to devise and implement a membership drive strategy, draft a membership guidelines/ policy, source for and share information with members of opportunities for training and fundraising that will be beneficial to members and be fluent in English and French.
Finance Officer

Ref: FNT- FO 2012
The Person will:
  • Assist the Finance Manager in ensuring full compliance with policies & procedures, particularly around cash, advances, banking and safeguard of assets.
  • Be the main data entry person into the accounting software including preparing periodic and end of year statement of comprehensive income, financial position, cash flows & other reports.
  • Professionally draft assigned budgets for programme and core expenditures. • Assist in ensuring a fair selection of quality vendors and service providers, and fairness and transparency in the awarding of all contracts;
  • Assist in production of monthly reports including providing fully reconciled reports detailing income, expenditure, cash and bank, reconciliations and variance analysis, cash forecasts
  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with all financial reporting and forecasting requirements of funding partners and ensuring that expenditure is incurred and reported in line with donor agreements.
  • Providing financial guidance and supervision to staff that might be assigned to work under him/her including interns.
  • Ensuring transactions processed fully comply with host country laws and regulations and assist in identifying financial and legislative changes that may affect the organisation’s operations
  • Undertaking any other duties that might, from time to time, be assigned by the Finance Manager and team
We are looking for:
  • A bachelors degree in accounting or business related field from a credible University.
  • A fully Qualified Accountant CPA(K) or ACCA with not less than 4 years experience in a busy environment preferably in an INGO set up.
  • Proficiency in using common accounting softwares and other computer applications.
  • A team player, able to meet strict deadlines with minimum supervision.
Assistant Translator

Ref: FNT- AT 2012
The Person will:
  • Assisting the Translator in responding to translation and interpretation needs from the Network as may be required in order to maintain fair communication with FEMNET’s Francophone and Anglophone constituencies;
  • Assisting the Translator in ensuring the timely availability of all FEMNET’s communication products, Programmeme/ project outputs in both English and French;
  • Assisting the Translator in facilitating communications in all forms (phone, Skype, e-mails etc) during various events
  • Assisting the Translator in ensuring quality interpretation and translation work from consultants, including through proofreading and/or editing their work as may be required, so that FEMNET bilingual products maintain professional standards;
  • Taking up any other relevant duties assigned.
We are looking for:
  • a relevant bachelors degree from recognized university, proficiency in French and English;
  • minimum experience of three years in translation and /or interpretation in a busy environment preferably in regional or international organizations;
  • a sound knowledge of relevant computer software ,e.g. MS Office and CAT tools;
  • proven ability to work effectively with deadlines;
  • an excellent eye for detail, style and usage in both French and English;
  • high sense of self-supervision and organizational and time management skills;
  • knowledge of issues that FEMNET engages in such as gender and human rights is an added advantage;
  • Knowledge of additional languages (Portuguese, Arabic) will be an added advantage.
