The Position:

AKF will be organizing a two-day gender equality workshop October 9-10, 2012 in Kabul, Afghanistan. The overall purpose of the workshop is to provide staff with opportunities to build their capacity in gender equality. The specific objectives of the workshop are:

•To develop an understanding and commitment to integrating gender equality in programmes and in operations;

•To learn about practical approaches and tools that can be used to integrate and promote gender equality in AKF; and

•To develop a plan for next steps in practically integrating gender equality into AKF's work.

Methodology:

The workshop should be both participatory and interactive and use a variety of facilitation methodologies to ensure participants are able to apply new concepts, approaches and skills to their work.

The consultant will work closely with the Gender Equality Advisor of AKF Afghanistan in the planning of the workshop.

Expected Tasks and Deliverables:

The gender equality trainer/facilitator will be expected to carry out the following tasks and deliverables:

•Develop a work plan outlining the tasks and estimated timelines for carrying on the gender equality workshop.

•To review relevant documents in preparation for the training including the AKF Gender Policy, HR policies, Gender Strategy and other documents provided by AKF Afghanistan.

•To design and develop a high quality workshop programme, including all relevant training material, in collaboration with the Director, Policy and Partnerships, and Gender Advisors.

•To deliver a high quality and participatory two-day workshop for 20 key AKF Afghanistan staff.

•To develop, in collaboration with participants, an action plan for Programme Year 2013.

•To prepare a summary report of the workshop

•To provide follow-up support as deemed necessary by the AKF Gender Equality Advisor.

The Requirements:

AKF Afghanistan is seeking a trainer/facilitator with the following qualifications and competencies:

•An advanced degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies or related Social Sciences.

•Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering gender equality trainings or similar mandates.

•A minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in gender equality work experience in the development sector.

•Working experience in Afghanistan is an asset.

•Excellent facilitation skills.

•Excellent interpersonal and ability to work with a diverse group of people.
