International University of East Africa Coordinator Faculty of Engineering (Undergraduate Program)

The International University of East Africa, Faculty of Engineering, is seeking for a Senior Academic (preferably an associate or full professor) to coordinate all aspects of our undergraduate degree programs

The candidate should, preferably, have an academic and business/industry experience. The person will be primarily responsible for leading the establishment of this new faculty.

The ideal candidate should therefore have excellent practical and communication skills and enjoy working with people. As a faculty member, the person will be required to teach classes in the faculty of Engineering. Finally, we seek an individual who will be able to lead coordinated efforts of faculty members to secure funding for innovative educational programs and curriculum advancement.

JOB PURPOSE

To establish all the required infrastructure for the faculty and implement teaching programs as well as lead collaborative activities with existing and new institutions and industrial partner organizations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To take a leading role in laying down the framework for establishing and for the development of a well organized faculty.
  2. To develop all structures as a basis for launching the faculty
  3. To coordinate curriculum development, class scheduling, certification reviews and student advising
  4. To lead the development of courses within Engineering faculty
  5. To contribute to the development and implementation of research and partnership strategies for the Faculty.
  6. To contribute to other activities (including administration) within Engineering and the University as a whole.
  7. Screening and Recommending Staff
  8. Organising Faculty Examiners Meetings

Preference will be given to candidates with an ability to work with a young and upcoming institution that is establishing a new faculty

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A PhD level qualification or equivalent in an associated field
  2. A major academic or professional track record in an appropriate field, with evidence of extensive impact through peer-reviewed journals and/or other outcomes
  3. A strategic vision for the development of innovative research, education and knowledge transfer in Engineering
  4. High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team
  5. High level of self-motivation
  6. Evidence of and ability to develop strong national, Regional and international links with academia, public sector and industry
  7. Ability to identify target application sectors and identify appropriate strategies for those sectors
  8. Industrial or professional experience working for, or with industry
  9. An outstanding record of achievement in research of international standing
  10. Publication record in reputable journals or the equivalent in the case of an industrial background
