WWF Global Climate and Energy Initiative, Senior Advisor on Energy Economics

We are recruiting a Senior Advisor Energy Economics to be responsible for strengthening WWF’s economic expertise, support and engagement on promotion of clean Renewable Energies towards strong 2030 RES targets in line with our Vision of 100% Renewables by 2050. We are looking for an analytical thinker who is up-to-date on non-renewable energy economic issues with experience in energy economics to join our cause.

This is a global position based in WWF-Mexico offices in Mexico City, Mexico


Reports to:

WWF’s Director Global Energy Policy in close interaction with WWF-Mexico Climate and Energy Program staff, GCEI focal countries and core staff.

Main responsibilities:
  • Develops and drives both internally and externally a convincing positive economic narrative on the move to clean, sustainable renewables and nationally ambitious 2030 RES targets
  • Focuses on energy economics in key emerging developing countries. Initial focus will be on support for WWF’s RES work in Mexico, Brazil, South Africa and India
  • Inputs, as appropriate, to international energy economic debates and fora such as IPCC and IEA.
  • Provides capacity building and briefings for the network on energy economics
  • Ensures synergies wherever possible in the GCEI, particularly with the Climate Business Engagement, the Low Carbon Framework and the emerging Finance team.

Required Skills and Competencies:
  • University degree in energy economics or related topic.
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience in energy economics, preferably in developing countries and on renewables, such as publications, practical modeling, or direct project development
  • Strong understanding of economics and financing of renewables.
  • Knowledge of the public key debates and policy instruments on energy economics and renewables in emerging economies
  • Close familiarity with the debate on non-renewable energy economic issues such as energy efficiency, fuel and electricity cost developments etc.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English and Spanish; other languages relevant to places of Initiative implementation.
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Good networking capability, ability to work in virtual team structures
  • International experience, and experience working in cross-cultural teams and/or multinational environments.
