Associate General Counsel (Asia/Pacific)
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a talented professional to serve as our Associate General Counsel at our Asia/Pacific Area Office (AO) located in Bangkok, Thailand. The individual selected for this position will provide legal counsel to Area Vice President and the Area Management Team regarding contracts, employment, microfinance, risk management, transactional and general corporate matters, as well as interpretation and guidance in establishment and practice of HFHI policies.
Responsibilities:
Cooperate with and assist the Area Vice President and the Area Management Team with providing legal support to national organizations and branches
Negotiate, draft, and review contracts with NGO's, governmental organizations, contractors, & other third parties, including partnership agreements, sponsorship agreements, service agreements & other miscellaneous agreements
Manage, coordinate and report legal resources which serve affiliates, regional support centers and national offices
Manage and support outside counsel, insurance companies and government agencies with regard to AO needs
Support AO staff in providing training to the AO and affiliated organizations regarding governance, regulatory matters, legal & policy compliance, & other risk management concerns
Assist in development & review of checklists, legal content, templates & forms for use in the AO
Works closely with counsel in HFHI’s other AOs and the legal department at HFHI Headquarters
Responsible for other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
*J.D. (or Bachelor's Degree specializing in Law) and license to practice law required
*Ideal candidate possesses between 6-12 years experience in private practice or in-house
*Expertise in one or more of the following areas: general corporate, risk/litigation management, microfinance, employment, real estate, or transactional matters
*Work effectively with minimal supervision
*Experience working with remote teams helpful
*Experience with an international NGO or non-profit organization and/or multi-national corporate law department preferred
*Ability to handle a wide range of matters, have good judgment, be process oriented with a positive outlook
*Strong work ethic and an even-keeled demeanor
*Candidates must be comfortable in a global, humanitarian, Christian organization
