VACNACY ANNOUNCEMENT: DOCUMENTALIST

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.

In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union Commission (AUC) intends to build its capacity to deliver, among others, the implementation of its organizational structure by filling up vacancies.

The Commission is therefore inviting applicants who are citizens of Member States of the African Union to apply for position of
Documentalist .

1. Post:

Job title: Documentalist

Grade: P1

Number of positions: Two (2)

Duty Station: Multiple Offices

2. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the Heads of Bureau, the Documentalists shall be responsible for the following:

a. To manage and maintain the physical collection of all released documents and library of the office;

b. To assist the other officers in the dissemination of particular mission and other African Union outreach material;

c. To maintain and update regularly the mission library and help establish a computerized database of relevant reference material;

d. To assist in the editing and publication of documents;

e. To assist in the regular updating of the mission web site;

f. To assist in the day to day management of the information system in place at the mission.

g. To perform any other duties as may be assigned.

h. The candidate should have the following skills:

· Solid knowledge and understanding of information management and library processes, procedures and practices, including the relevant databases and technology.

· Strong computer skills; proven ability to use standard technology packages, e.g. WINISIS, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, X-press, PAGEMAKER, Internet. Basic knowledge of web editing.

3. Educational Qualifications and Work Experience Required:

Candidates must have at least a Bachelors Degree in information management, library science, archiving, or a closely related discipline.

Candidates must have at least 5 years of relevant experience.

4. Other Relevant Skills:

· Must be computer literate;

· Working knowledge of policy analysis and development and programme/project management, implementation and monitoring;

· Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to organize and motivate others, and to work in a multi-cultural environment;

· Excellent drafting and reporting skills;

· Good communication and negotiation skills;

· Good planning and organizational skills.

5. Language Requirement: Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage.

6. Age Requirement: Candidates should preferably be between 25 and 35 years old.

7. Tenure of Appointment: The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration: Indicative basic salary of US$22,910.00 per annum plus other related entitlements-e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($14,414.40 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
