Description of duties: Purpose of the post To provide technical support to the province as well as provincial teams of Punjab province to develop, implement and evaluate Polio Eradication activities, both Acute Flaccid Paralysis Surveillance (AFP) & Supplementary Immunization Activities and Routine Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). Organizational Context Under the technical directions of the Provincial and Federal Polio Eradication Team Leader, and the overall supervision of the WHO Representative, the incumbent will work as a National Professional Officer, within the framework of national policies and guidelines defined in WHO programme and policy documents. Summary of assigned duties 1.Support surveillance activities (for AFP and VPI diseases) to ensure achievement/maintenance of certification standards through: a.Participate in the planning and in the implementation of active surveillance and routine reporting; b.Support training activities and supervision of surveillance/support staff in the area of assignment; c.Participate in the organization of advocacy/orientation meetings for health care providers; d.Ensure proper case investigations, follow-up and classification; e.Regular analysis of surveillance data and monitoring indicators. 2.Support development and strengthening of routine immunization through: a.Participate in the development of microplans for implementation of Reach Every District approach and ensure their proper implementation and monitoring; b.Coordinate with partners on activities related to routine immunization and ensure community participation c.Timely analysis and interpretation of routine data and its use for corrective action. 3.Support supplementary immunization activities: a.Support preparations, implementation and monitoring of supplementary immunization activities including microplanning, training and monitoring; b.Timely analysis of data and its use for corrective action. 4.Contribute in strengthening of the development of Health Systems infrastructure particularly through training and assist in building national capacity in the area of assignment. 5.Liaise with different EPI/PEI partners and enlist continued commitment of national local authorities to stated goals 6.Oversee activities of national support staff recruited by WHO working in Polio eradication activities 7. Submit monthly reports to reflect progress achieved, constraints and proposed actions | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: Essential: University degree from a recognized medical school. Desirable: Post graduate degree in public health (preferably epidemiology of child health) | |
Skills: Competencies: 1. Producing Results 2. Fostering integration and team work 3. Communicating in a credible and effective way 4. Creating an empowering motivating environment 5. Respecting and promoting individual and cultural differences. Functional Skills and Knowledge: Managerial skills, providing leadership to the staff and knowledge of epidemiology. Other Skills: Competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with EPI INFO. | |
Experience: Essential: At least 5 years experience in EPI related activities. Desirable: Experience in NGOs, UN agencies or Ministry of health in immunization related areas. | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and the local language. | |
