WaterAid America (WAA) is an independent member of WaterAid international (WAi), which includes member offices in the UK, Australia & Sweden. WAA was established in 2004, with the goals of raising awareness in the US about the global water and sanitation crisis and mobilizing financial and other resources to advance the work of WaterAid around the world. WAA is based in New York with a Policy & Advocacy office in Washington, DC.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Institutional Giving Manager is responsible for responsible for supporting the development and submission of funding proposals and reports, with significant emphasis on WaterAid America’s growing USAID portfolio. Operating in a climate of significant growth and increasing US Government regulation and oversight, the Institutional Giving Manager will also play a critical role in building WAA’s capacity to manage and comply with USAID guidelines.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Institutional Giving Manager also works closely with the CFO and Program Funding staff.

The ideal candidate will possess experience and/or familiarity with international development issues and a commitment to WaterAid’s mission and values. The selected candidate will be expected to travel domestically and internationally with varied work hours, including some evening and weekend commitments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Secure and manage grants and contracts from USAID and other institutional donors.
• Coordinate the development and write grant proposals to prospective funders.
• Support program development staff and partners in managing all aspects of grants and contracts, including advice and guidance on USAID policies and procedures, clarifying reporting requirements and timeframes, submission of payment requests etc.
• Serve as staff expert for compliance issues and build the capacity of internal systems and staff to meet and comply with all audit and accountability requirements as appropriate.
• Lead in the development of capacity building tools, policies and procedures to inform and guide the process of attracting and managing institutional funds. Keep the relevant stakeholders up-to-date on significant concerns, risks and issues affecting the management of donor contracts and broader relationships.
• Communicate requirements to and manage timelines for funded proposals with WaterAid country program staff
• Conduct research on prospective foundations and government sources; identify prospects for funding annual and special campaign needs.
• Manage prospect list of institutional funders.
• Contribute to the development of WA's USAID fundraising strategies; develop effective annual and long-term planning documents.
• Communicate passionately about WaterAid’s work while also presenting detailed project information that demonstrates our impact.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in international relations or development, or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
• At least 5+ years' experience in development, contract management or grantwriting, preferably with a focus on international issues.
• Demonstrated success managing multi-year institutional partnerships.
• Ability to set short and long term objectives that support organizational goals.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication and analytical skills.
• Strong administrative skills including MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
• Excellent attention to detail and a willingness to support individuals at all levels.
• Ability to manage a busy and varied workload, including multiple projects and deadlines, and think proactively and work independently, with limited supervision.
• Positive and flexible approach to working in a busy, open office as part of a team
• Proficiency in a second language preferred
