CARE seeks a Agriculture Development Adviser (ADA) for an upcoming program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The purpose of this multi-sectoral program is to promote stable socioeconomic recovery in targeted communities in eastern DRC, especially in areas where SGBV and gender inequalities are considered major challenges to stability and reconciliation.
SUMMARY
The Agriculture Development Adviser (ADA) will directly oversee program implementation related to expanding economic opportunities in the agricultural sector such as provision of training in farming techniques and material support to farmers, as well as building mutually beneficial linkages between farmers, buyers, and transporters. The ADA will work closely with other program staff to ensure effective implementation and knowledge sharing, as well as working closely with community members. Facilitating gender equity and increased opportunities for women will be a key strategy in this role.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Provide technical support and guidance regarding the design and implementation of program activities related to expanded economic opportunities in the agriculture sector
Coordinate with other project staff, consultants, and partners and assist with the development of country work and strategic plans;
Lead and technically supervise designated special projects;
Design and lead technical training sessions for program staff concerning economic livelihood and agricultural best practices;
Promote learning and knowledge management through documentation and knowledge sharing around best practices and lessons learned
Work with other staff and partners to ensure quality, integrated approaches to agricultural development;
Ensure the timely and quality completion of all designated deliverables;
Qualifications Include:
  • Five years experience with agriculture development in Africa.
  • Excellent communication, diplomatic and interpersonal skills with the ability to dialogue, network, and negotiate with various stakeholders and development partners.
  • Experience in promotion of gender equity in agriculture is desired.
  • Ability to collaborate with people and organizations of diverse backgrounds; a strong team-worker.
  • English and French language skills are required.
  • Swahili language skills desired.
