Gender and Development CoP Advisor

The purpose of the Gender Equality Research and GAD-CoP Adviser is to enhance the effectiveness of gender equality integration in programs and initiatives by advising the Gender and Development (GAD) Director, by designing and managing the Gender and Development Community of Practice (GAD_CoP), coordinating and facilitating communications, collaboration and knowledge management between the various members of interest and working groups, networks and with other related CoPs . This position will significantly contribute to increased quality programs and to the achievement of CWBO and aspirations. The adviser provides leadership in designing and implementing collaborative strategies for GAD-CoP members' professional development and improved work outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Manage the Gender Community of Practice (GAD-CoP) through advising strategic directions and monitoring implementation
    • Develop and implement strategy to improve the coordination and communications, collaboration and knowledge management between the various members of interest and working groups, networks and with other related CoPs
    • Virtual learning and capacity building approaches for CoP members: this includes coordinating with administrators of other interest and working groups to facilitate the documentation and sharing of best practices; learning ‘threads’ on the web based portals, and the potential development of competency based learning modules around core topic areas.
    • Design and implement collaborative strategies for GAD-CoP members' professional development
    • Participate and provide input into GAD Department’s activities in ensuring information, technical support and guidance to staff on the inclusion of gender equality perspectives in formulation and implementation of policies, programmes, and projects in all stages of planning, programming, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
      the to and ensure Project Models are reviewed through gender lens
    • Manage dissemination of information concerning external professional development opportunities, relevant conferences, workshops and relevant interagency meetings and processes.
    • Identify and maintain contacts with gender and development expertise as resource persons, within and outside the organization, who can provide technical assistance and capacity building to field staff
    • Research gender impact and lessons learned from programs already in progress; Research, document and analyze internal and external gender activities, guidelines, best practices and gender tools and resources.
    • Coordinate and monitor the activities of the Gender Self-Assessment (GSA) in collaboration with the Regional GAD advisors.
    • Collect, process, review and transform information into all types of electronic and potentially print formats for dissemination internally and to external partners and stakeholders
    • Promote enhancing gender equity related policies and programs.
    • Advise and assist initiatives that enhances collaboration with churches and other faith based institutions to promote gender equality and sensitivity within their faith communities and their missions in communities
    • Lead or coordinate networks in collaboration with other INGOs and UN Agencies by attending and contributing to WV’s experience to the United Nations Commission on the
    • Status of Women (CSW) meetings and to other relevant Global gender related activities and forums.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

REQUIRED:
    • Requires an advanced degree in GAD or an equivalent experience
    • Excellent communication, networking and relationship building and influencing skills. Interpersonal skills that ensure positive and constructive contacts with internal and external stakeholders.

      PREFERRED:
    • Experience of using social networking tools and information management systems
