University of Ghana - University of Ghana Computing Systems

The University of Ghana is in the process of harmonising all its Computing Services Units into a central unit called the University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS) as part of its Central Administration. The UGCS will primarily be responsible for providing leadership in the development and use of ICT to enhance teaching, learning, research and administrative activities in the University. The UGCS will be made up of the following divisions:

  1. Information Technology Infrastructure
  2. Information Technology Services
  3. iCommons
  4. Administrative Systems
  5. Security, Access and Identity Management, Policy and Standards

The University is therefore seeking to engage the services of an individual with the required drive and expertise to serve as Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) to provide leadership for the new UGCS Unit.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development), the Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) shall oversee the complete establishment of the UGCS into a viable functioning unit within the University.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Technology specialist with PhD in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/MIS with at least significant working experience at senior level management
    OR
  2. Technology specialist with MBA/MSc/MPhil in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/MIS with at least substantial working experience at senior level management

PLUS:

  1. Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  2. Experience in change management, contracting, and negotiating.
  3. Good knowledge of current trends in information technology, computer systems and software as well as ability to manage the entire spectrum of Information Technology operations.
  4. Experience with the implementation of IT integration in a large division/company especially in an academic environment.
  5. Experience in resource mobilization including fund raising.
  6. Ability to motivate teams to produce good quality results within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
