Digital Campaigning Manager Location: Oxford

Hours: 36 per week

Oxfam Purpose: To work with others to overcome poverty & suffering.

Campaigns & Policy Division Purpose: To work with others to alleviate global poverty and suffering by driving cutting edge campaigns that make government and business act.

Campaigns Department Purpose:
  • Mobilise a critical mass of active citizens globally and in the UK, to generate an irrefutable expression of public opinion for an end to poverty;
  • Continue to build a global campaigning capacity with Oxfam GB leaders and alliances in countries around the world that are key to delivering change for poor people;
  • Lead the creative and strategic thinking to deliver three global public-facing campaigns: Oxfam's priority campaign, GROW; Financing for Development and Essential Public Services, including the Robin Hood Tax; and Humanitarian including Arms Control.
Job Purpose: To develop, deliver and maintain online projects that contribute to Oxfam's campaigning goals. These projects include products aimed at defined groups of supporters, initiatives that seek to encourage participation from the general public and the influencing of public opinion through the use of social media. All Oxfam's campaigning work aims to increase the public's active participation in campaigns through story-telling, skill sharing and the taking of action.

Reporting Lines: Post holder reports to: UK Digital Campaigns Team Leader

Dimensions

  • Provide digital expertise to the UK Campaigns Department in the planning and delivery of projects aimed at specific groups of people; with the intention of motivating them to take campaign action on behalf of others.
  • To share your skills and knowledge with offline campaigners so that Oxfam's campaigns make sense whether seen on- or offline and to use your knowledge to improve our online Public Engagement and Influencing work. To work with the team leader in developing a digital campaign strategy that is linked to Oxfam's global objectives and can deliver meaningful action in the UK.
  • To work within digital social spaces developing networks, relationships and supporter-led activities that contribute to specific short- and medium-term campaign goals.
  • To work with the team leader and Head of Innovation and Change strategy on long term projects that are aimed at particular groups of people or particular outcomes.
  • To own, develop, and deliver specific projects.
  • To offer editorial and content oversight of campaign materials on Oxfam's UK website.
  • To assist in the monitoring, evaluation and improvement of Oxfam's digital campaigning.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the UK Digital Lead to grow Oxfam's online campaigning presence and impact
  • To provide digital support to Oxfam's 'GROW' and 'Health and Education for all' campaigns
  • To develop and deliver communications with specific groups of people in mind
  • To encourage supporter-led activity in pursuit of Oxfam's campaign objectives
  • To work with others to follow, understand and influence relevant online activity To work with internal and external partners in developing coalition campaigns
  • To work with internal specialists and campaigners on the content, delivery and function of the campaigns' department web presence
  • To work with colleagues to offer support and training around best digital practise and implementation
  • To ensure Oxfam's UK digital campaigning supports Oxfam's global digital campaigning

Skills and Competence

  • Experience in writing and delivering online communications plans (E)
  • Demonstrably strong project management skills (E)
  • Experience of managing or coordinating the use of social media/digital tools to achieve marketing or campaign objectives (E)
  • Skills in relationship building, relationship management, negotiation and influencing (E)
  • Strong understanding of digital tools and approaches, and how to facilitate user generated content (E)
  • An understanding of the processes involved in the creation of communications materials and digital content (E)
  • A strong eye for detail and experience of web editorial or site administration (E)
  • An interest in the development of grass-roots movement building (D)
  • An understanding of the importance of user experience considerations in web design (D)
  • An interest in how online conversation occurs and how it can be influenced (D)
  • Experience in, or understanding of, the use of monitoring tools to inform evidence-led decision making (D)
  • Ability to skill-share and facilitate (D)
  • Comfortable with line management responsibility (D)
  • Commitment to Oxfam's goals and values (E)
Other: There may be a requirement for some out of hours and weekend work, and the line management of interns. At times of emergencies an "on call" arrangement may be necessary. Travel within the UK will be necessary and possibly overseas.
