Environmental Educator - CCR Kwazulu Natal-Richards Bay

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Assist with coordination and implementation of environmental education and awareness within the surrounding communities of RBM. Provide feedback from communities' expectations on environmental requirements of the rehabilitated areas and provide input into the sustainability of the company after mining.

JOB OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify and manage community projects related to environment tourism and heritage
  • Interface with relevant government departments and NGOs in relation to community development and environment
  • Assist with footwork in the communities to identify water users in the catchment to improve RBM's understanding of community concerns and pressures on commercial sources of water
  • Provide input into environmental strategic planning issues with communities and to improve the company's ability to manage the potential conflicts
  • Identify local schools and future graduates that can become ecologist/environmental scientists as part of the RBM bursar scheme.
  • Support sustainable development initiates
  • Work in close liaison with SHEQ Division: Environmental to assist with environmental awareness programs and feedback
  • Work in close liaison with Rehabilitation Division
  • Assist with the investigation of avenues to ensure continuation of indigenous restoration efforts and a functional coastal forest and the value / use thereof for and by communities

OUTPUTS:

  • Influencing internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimal HSE outcomes
  • Manage HSE risks
  • Develop and deliver relevant HSE messages to internal and external audiences
  • Adding value by integrating HSE with business context and process

  • Ensure environmental education and awareness

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma/Degree in Environmental or related filed
  • 5 years experience in facilitating communities based environmental projects
  • In depth knowledge of ecological and environmental processes
  • Proven good understanding of the basics of sustainable development
  • Fluent in Zulu and English
  • Drivers Licence

COMPETENCIES:

  • Good communication, inter-personal relations and administrative skills.
  • Time management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
