Duties: The successful applicant will be required to teach African literature, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on any of southern, central, or east African fiction, as well as post-colonial literary theory. Further, ability to teach 17th century English poetry and 19th and 20th century American literature would be an added advantage.

Requirements: Candidates should have (i) a PhD, in the related area; (ii) at least 8 years teaching experience; iii) successfully supervised graduate students at both Masters and PhD levels; (iv) a cumulative and sustained record of research and publications; (iv) a minimum of 24 pieces of published research products, at least 12 of which are refereed journal articles; (v) been lead and/or single author in at least 10 journal articles or book chapters; (vi) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community; (vii) the ability to attract funding from international sources and this should be reflected in the profile; (viii) a proven record of academic leadership in teaching, research and administration; (ix) acted as a mentor to junior academic staff. The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and page numbers. The works should be categorized into refereed and non-refereed articles, book chapters and books.
