SENIOR LIBRARIAN SYSTEMS Library Services (Re-advertisement)

Duties: Coordinator of the Systems Unit; Responsible for: Planning for integrated electronic and automated library systems; developing policies, operational guidelines, implementing, managing and monitoring of such systems, and maintenance, reports, upgrades, new features, systems changes; coordinating implementation and operational support of the computer hardware, software and networks dedicated to the library’s services and administrative functions; providing leadership on all systems projects; in consultation with key library staff and the department of IT, Advises on innovative applications of emerging information technologies for enhancement of library services; train in Millennium/Innopac and other Library applications.

Requirements: Masters degree in Library and Information Studies or equivalent qualification plus a minimum of 5 years experience in an academic Library or academic computing, three of which must be at supervisory level; knowledge and experience of integrated library management systems, networking, hardware and software as they relate to delivery of library services; knowledge of and experience with digital library technologies; OR a degree in computer science with demonstrated experience in an integrated library systems, provision of web-based services, programming and database design over a minimum of 5 years in academic library and/or academic computing; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent written, oral communication skills and good skills in facilitation of training. Competencies: Experience with Innovative Interfaces integrated library system software (Innopac/Millennium); ability to train in Millennium/Innopac and other Library applications, web development and database skills using industry standard tools, applications and languages; proficiency in digital library stands for description, access, delivery and preservation; Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with NT network environment. Knowledge of AACR2 and MARC 21 will be an added advantage.
