Finance Officer - Water Aid , Nepal

Location: Kathmandu, with regular travel to partners’ offices and programme sites
Level: 3
Duration: 2 years with an initial probation period of six months

WaterAid in Nepal (WAN) is an international NGO. It has been working in Nepal since 1987. Its vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation (WASH). It emphasises (a) scaling up inclusive, affordable and sustainable community-managed water supplies, (b) promotion of sanitation, (c) improving sustained hygiene behaviours, and (d) increasing advocacy work for responsible WASH governance.

Position Description: Reporting to Finance and Administrative Manager, the selected candidate:

  • Ensures compliance with WaterAid financial policies and procedures.
  • Implements accounts and financial management according to WaterAid accounts manual.
  • Acts as the custodian of WaterAid’s cash assets.
  • Checks bank reconciliation statements, and internal expenditures/ payment process.
  • Makes payment and receives funds according to WaterAid accounting procedure
  • Ensures that finance-related documents are complete; prepares the payroll; maintains an advance register, and uploads the transactions accurately on SUN system.

Essential Skills and Experiences


  • A bachelor degree in accounting and/or finance.
  • Proficient in using accounting packages, and MS Office software
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Nepali languages
  • Able to deliver fair, accurate and completed work on time without close supervision
  • A minimum of three years of work experience in financial management, preferably at NGOs /INGOs.
  • Able to interpret data, do financial analysis, write short financial reports
  • Experienced in overseeing internal controls; able to remedial actions where appropriate
  • Proven experience in monitoring budget and NGO partners
  • Able to commit to WaterAid’s values
