Financial Analyst South Africa-Gauteng Province

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day running of financial reporting and consolidation related tasks, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of all entities reporting to the African Barrick Gold plc and ultimately the Annual financial statements of the group. H/she will report into the Manager – Financial reporting
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Assist in the preparation, coordination and analysis of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including preparation of internal management reports and external reporting packages (Quarterly trading update, half-year statement and Annual Financial statements) in compliance with group reporting deadlines;
· Assist with the month-end reporting cycle including Balance sheet/Income statement reviews of individual trial balances reported into the consolidation system, consolidation of group accounts, HFM administration and resolution of issues;
· Assist the preparation of the monthly executive report encompassing budget/forecast variance analysis and analysis to prior month, where applicable;
· Reconciliation/completion of various consolidation financial statement accounts;
· Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to further streamline and/or automate the reporting cycle, including optimization of current application system (HFM) and opportunities to reduce cycle time, as appropriate;
· Responsible for quarter/half year/year-end audit process and liaising with external auditors.
· Prepare, post and review monthly consolidation journal entries; maintain minimal consolidation journal entries in the consolidation on an on-going basis;
· Maintain and adhere to established SOX/normal internal controls, modify/update as required and assist in providing documented evidence of such compliance;
· Meet established internal and external deadlines to ensure timely financial reporting and maintain monthly tracking of external submissions and other key metrics;
· Liaise with various internal departments, including, tax, treasury, accounting policy group, planning and investor relations, to provide reports or information as required;
· Communicate effectively with site/corporate units to coordinate the timely submission of financial information and interpreting financial submissions;
· Ensure appropriate integration between financial accounting systems and reporting tools to enable accurate and timely financial reporting;
· Assist with design and implementation of computer assisted financial analysis & reports (primarily HFM);
· Exploration/Capital project reporting/reconciliation
· Participate in and support special projects as required
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
Education: A Newly qualified Chartered Accountant with relevant technical accounting knowledge is essential.
Experience: Any commercial/mining specific experience will be beneficial.
Special attributes: A driven individual that understands and takes ownership of issues, and demonstrates the ability to build relationships with the mine sites in order to ensure ongoing accurate and timely reporting of results. The candidate must be a strong team player that makes tough decisions and ensures accurate financial reporting within the region. The individual must be willing to travel since it will be an essential part of the job and be prepared to take up potential mini secondments if required.
