Vacancy for Information and Communications Officer

Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting women from Asia and Pacific Islands with relevant experience and skills to apply for the position of Information and Communications Officer.

APWLD is a regional network of women’s organisations and activists in Asia Pacific, committed to enabling women to use law as an instrument of social change for equality, justice and development. APWLD’s members are drawn from 26 countries and the secretariat is based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The key responsibility of the Information and Communications Officer is to oversee and carry out the approved information, communications and advocacy activities of APWLD, with the objective of increased awareness of women human rights issues and of the contribution of women to national and regional development.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia Pacific
• Degree in communications or journalism; advanced degree in the fields of social sciences, human rights or women's studies an advantage. Relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may also be considered.
• Minimum of three years experience in communications or journalism, preferably at the regional and international level
• Excellent command of English language, both oral and written; proven ability in writing, editing and publishing a range of materials in multimedia forms for a variety of target audiences
• Computer skills for basic office programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience using social media and managing databases, and familiarity with electronic publishing, layout and desktop publishing
• Strong analytical skills in research, lobbying and developing advocacy materials
• Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to network and liaise in a multi-cultural environment

Desirable

• Experience using website content management systems and HTML email systems (Wordpress, Mailchimp, etc.)
• Experience using online survey programs
• Video production
• Knowledge of international human rights and development issues in Asia Pacific

Key tasks:

• Reports directly to the Regional Coordinator
• Writes, edits and collects articles and materials for APWLD regular and special publications, and oversees compilation, editing, design, publication and distribution, including quarterly newsletters and member updates
• Maintains the APWLD information/ advocacy database
• Manages and updates the APWLD website and social media sites
• Handles and responds to action alerts and advocacy requirements of APWLD and its members and partners
• Manages media relations, including issuing press releases and statements and responding to media requests
• Coordinates relevant publications and effective information networking with APWLDs networks in collaboration with relevant programmes
• Prepares documentation, narrative, annual, financial and other reports in line with assigned work
• Coordinates the production of advocacy and training resource materials as required in collaboration with relevant programmes
• Assists the Regional Coordinator in the preparation of project proposals and budgetary requirements for donor agencies
• Manages overall computer related matters in the office with the Liaison Officer
• Coordinates advocacy and communications to assigned programmes to include conferences, consultations, workshops, seminars, training, campaigns, research, etc
• Assists in preparing for Regional Council and Programme and Management Committee meetings
• May represent APWLD in regional/international fora as approved by the Regional Coordinator
• Performs any other task related to information, communication and advocacy that may be assigned by the Regional Coordinator

Remuneration

Salary range commences at THB 44,850 per month (equivalent to USD 1,300 converted at a set rate of THB 34.5). Other benefits include contributions to employment pension fund; housing and relocation allowances for staff residing outside of Thailand.

The contract is for three years, with a probationary period of four months.
