Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) is a statutory agency charged with the prime responsibility of promoting and facilitating investments in Kenya and was set up through the Investment Promotion Act of 2004.

KenInvest delivers its mandate through identification and promotion of investment opportunities, providing facilitation support and aftercare services to investors.

In addition the Authority undertakes policy advocacy to improve Kenya’s investment climate.
The Vision of KenInvest is “To Make Kenya a preferred Destination for Investments”. Our Mission is to attract, retain and expand both Domestic and International Investments in Kenya through provision of quality services.

In line with its Strategic Plan, the Kenya Investment Authority is undergoing transformation and the Board of Directors intends to fill the following positions.

1. Managing Director
Ref. No. KenInvest/MD/1/2012

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will provide visionary leadership in development and implementation of strategies designed to effectively position Kenya as the preferred investment location.

The job offers the right candidate the opportunity to spearhead the realization of the Kenya’s economic development aspirations through investments as stipulated in the Vision.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies, strategies and programmes designed to position Kenya as the preferred investment location.
  • Direct and exercise overall control of the Authority’s operations to ensure that its activities are managed in a professional, efficient and effective manner in order to meet its mission and objectives.
  • Oversee the implementation of Board’s decisions and policies.
  • Establishing and maintaining sound working relationships with Government, investors, development partners and other stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction in the formulation, development, implementation and evaluation of the Authority’s Strategic Plan.
  • Continuously review KenInvest organization structure, systems and procedures to ensure that these are properly aligned with the strategic direction.
  • Oversee the establishment of effective risk management and control systems in order to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement an effective communication and public relations strategy to ensure that investors and stakeholders have access to information to make informed investment decisions.
  • Promote sound corporate governance and ethical standards.
  • Any other responsibilities as may be necessary to achieve the Authority’s objectives.
Minimum qualifications for the position include;
  • A minimum of a Masters Degree from a recognised University with an emphasis in Business Administration, Finance and Economics or in a related field.
  • Experience in strategic management and planning.
  • Possess 15 years experience with a minimum of 7 years in senior management and leadership position/s in a large public / private organization.

2. Director, Research and Policy Advocacy
Ref. No. KenInvest/D-SR&P / 2/ 2012

Reporting to the Managing Director, the position will be responsible for developing a comprehensive policy framework to carry out investment research, policy analysis and advocacy with a view to contributing to the improvement of Kenya’s investment climate.

The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to;
  • Planning, designing and coordinating the implementation of investment research studies and surveys aimed at assessing, evaluating and developing appropriate strategies that will spur local and international investment in Kenya.
  • Undertaking investment policies/regulations analysis and reviews to identify policy gaps and make recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitoring investment climate and targeted opportunities in the country.
  • Assessing the Country’s performance in generating/attracting new investments against the Strategic Plan, Vision 2030 and the Medium Term plan.
  • Production of information fact sheets (Sector and Sub-sector Profiles) and Guides for investors and stakeholders so as to ensure that KenInvest has a comprehensive knowledge-base on investment.
  • Spearhead KenInvest policy advocacy through establishment and maintenance of continuous dialogue with stakeholders, especially the public and private sector.
  • Continuously prepare publications to raise the profile and encourage discourse on investments in Kenya.
Minimum qualifications for the position include;
  • A Masters Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Policy Analysis or any other relevant qualifications. Knowledge on Project Management will be an added advantage.
  • Experience of at least 10 years, 3 of which must be at the level of a Research and/Policy Analysis Manager or a comparable and relevant position.
  • Demonstrated competence in Research, Strategy and Policy Analysis.
  • Strong IT skills, analytical and report writing skills.
  • Clear understanding of national economic priorities and ability to translate them into investment opportunities.
  • The candidates should have proven leadership qualities, possess problem-solving skills, ability to negotiate, be a strong team player, and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and management skills.
3. Investment Promotion and Facilitation Directors
3.1. Agriculture and Services - Ref. KenInvest/D-IP&F/AS /3/ 2012

3.3. Manufacturing and Others - Ref. KenInvest/D-IP&F/M /5/ 2012
Reporting to the Managing Director, the above positions will be responsible for identification, attraction, facilitation and retention of Investments in their respective sectors for economic development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for and not limited to;
  • Establishing and developing strong relationships with industry based stakeholders to enable collaborative progression of investment and investment outcomes.
  • Ensuring efficient and effective dissemination of information on investment opportunities/ in order to create awareness, and enhance Kenya’s image. as well as development of sectoral promotional materials to market Kenya.
  • Work with potential investors through their decision processes and to secure new investments.
  • Establish and build strong relationships with key foreign investors that either already have significant investments in Kenya or are planning to make investments so as to secure, retain and grow inward investments.
  • Ensuring proper appraisal of projects submitted to KenInvest for approval.
  • Development and updating of sector investment procedures and promotional materials.
  • Ensuring effective management and organization of local and international investor meetings/ seminars.
  • Designing and implementing of effective programmes for the growth of small businesses.
  • Ensuring expeditious facilitation of the implementation of new investments.
  • Ensuring provision of effective After Care Services to new and existing investment projects.
  • Providing business advisory services to local and foreign investors.
Minimum qualifications for the position include;
  • A Masters Degree in Economics, Business Administration , Project Management, Policy analysis International Trade or similar qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Experience of at least 10 years, 3 of which must be in the grade of a Manager, Investment Promotion or a comparable/relevant position.
  • Conversant with key Government economic policies, economic integration and global business environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in the relevant sector, and/or competence in investment promotion/ business development.
  • The candidates should have proven leadership qualities, possess problem-solving skills, ability to negotiate, be strong team player, and possess excellent communication interpersonal and management skills.
4. Director, Finance & Resource Mobilization
Ref. No. KenInvest/D-F&RM / 6/ 2012

Reporting to the Managing Director, the position will be responsible for ensuring mobilisation and effective and efficient management of the Authority’s financial resources.

The person will be responsible for and not limited to;
  • Development and implementation of all financial policies and systems as well as advising on their implications.
  • Ensuring implementation and operation of sound financial accounting systems at KenInvest.
  • Preparing and implementing a resource mobilization strategy to support actualization of Authority’s strategic plan.
  • Establishing and maintaining sound working relationships with Government, Development partners and other stakeholders.
The interested candidates must;
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration.
  • Have a Bachelors Degree in Commerce (Accounting Option), or equivalent and relevant qualifications from a recognized university and a Must be a CPA (K) certified or posses any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution.
  • Served for at least 10 years, 3 of which must be in the grade of Finance/ Accounting Manager or a comparable and relevant position in a busy organisation.
  • Have strong IT skills.
  • Demonstrated Experience in Resource Mobilization.
The candidates should have proven leadership qualities, be a person of integrity, be a strong team player, and possess excellent communication and management skills.

Knowledge of government and donor financial regulations and procedures is an added advantage.

5. Director, Human Resource and Administration

Reporting to the Managing Director, the position will be responsible for ensuring that KenInvest attracts and retains a properly focused, highly motivated and productive human capital in line with the Authority’s Strategic Plan.

The successful candidate will be responsible for and not limited to;
  • Ensuring organizational conformity with applicable HR related regulations and statutes as well as organizational procedures and policies.
  • Develop, implement and review HR management systems that enable KenInvest to be a learning organisation.
  • Spearhead change management and organizational development geared towards developing an organization culture that emphasizes continuous improvement, team- work and results based performance.
  • Implement Performance Management systems.
  • Initiate and develop training policy, conduct training needs assessment; and other capacity building programmes.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures for the efficient and effective administration of KenInvest.
Minimum qualifications for the position include;
  • Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management or Development/Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Served for at least 10 years, 3 of which must be in the grade of Human Resource Manager or in a relevant and equivalent position in a busy organisation.
  • Have strong IT skills.
  • Conversant with labour laws and regulations.
  • The candidates should have proven leadership qualities, possess problem-solving skills, ability to negotiate, be a strong team player, and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and management skills.
  • Knowledge in guidance, counselling and psychometric analysis will be an added advantage.
