Political Section Trainee Delegation of the European Union to Thailand

The Delegation of the European Union to Thailand represents the European Union (EU) and ensures bilateral relations with Thailand, Lao PDR, and Burma/Myanmar in the political, economic, commercial and co-operation fields.
The Delegation also represents European interests in other areas of EU activity including:
  • Publicising, explaining and implementing EU policy.
  • Analysing policies of the countries to which they are accredited.
  • Conducting negotiations according to the mandates given to them.
  • Exercising powers conferred on the EU in third countries by promoting Europe's interests as embodied in EU policies (such as trade, agriculture and fisheries).
  • Playing a key role in development assistance.
The Political Section of the Delegation offers several unpaid internship opportunities per year.
Responsibilities for interns include:
  • Assisting with preparation of regular political and social analysis and reports of Thailand and Burma/Myanmar, including coverage of regional subject matters related to ASEAN & ASEM.
  • Assisting with preparation of ad hoc reports, studies, briefing notes or background analysis on specific subjects (visits of high-ranking officials from HQ, missions of the Head of Delegation, political negotiations or conferences).
  • Assisting with preparation of analysis of the human rights situation, civil society, democracy, and good governance in Thailand and Burma/Myanmar.
Candidates must be citizens of the European Union.
Excellent analytical, communication and drafting skills in English are ESSENTIAL pre-requisites for the job, as is full computer literacy. The intern would also be responsible for all costs (travel, accommodation, etc.) and must have adequate sickness and accident insurance.
Applicants should also be graduates with strong backgrounds in government, international relations, and/or politics.
We are recruiting two interns, for a period of 6 months each, to begin in early September 2012, and mid-November 2012 respectively. Please specify your preferred starting date. The position is based in Bangkok, Thailand.
