PROGRAM ASSISTANT, MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA

The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) strengthens democracy around the globe through private enterprise and market-oriented reform. CIPE is one of the four core institutes of the National Endowment for Democracy. Since 1983, CIPE has worked with business leaders, policymakers, and journalists to build the civic institutions vital to a democratic society. CIPE’s key program areas include anti-corruption, advocacy, business associations, corporate governance, democratic governance, access to information, the informal sector and property rights, and women and youth.

The Program Assistant for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is responsible for providing administrative, coordination, and writing/research support for CIPE’s programs for the MENA region.

Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Provide administrative support for Regional Director, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and correspondence.
  • Process and track payment requests, travel expense reports, and documents for signature.
  • Handle international travel arrangements, events, and local meeting logistics.
  • Organize and update Regional Director’s contacts.
  • Adhere to appropriate office, CIPE, NED and USAID policies and procedures.

Coordination

  • Serve as point of contact for MENA inquiries and communications.
  • Facilitate communication and cooperation among the members of the MENA team.
  • Review and edit program reports for submission to CIPE’s Program Coordination Unit (PCU) and donor agencies.
  • Manage process and adherence to deadlines for submission of proposals, including review of narrative proposal, budgets, interim assessments, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare agenda for, facilitate, and write minutes for MENA staff meetings.
  • Coordinate with the Communications department on submissions of Overseas Report, Annual report, and other publications.

Research/Writing

  • Facilitate idea development for MENA blogs, articles, CIPE Feature Service articles, and more.
  • Proofread and edit Regional Director’s and team’s writing.
  • Provide research and background ahead of Regional Director’s speaking engagements and event attendance.
  • Synthesize morning news and send digest to MENA staff.


Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of administrative office experience
  • Background in international affairs and/or the Middle East with an emphasis on political and economic issues
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superb writing abilities
  • Ability to handle multiple, detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with limited supervision
  • Computer skills, proficiency in MS-Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and internet research skills
  • Fluency or advanced competency in Arabic is preferred
