Job Mission

• To enable continuous business and network infrastructure performance improvement of MTN SA by managing the region execution process of various projects within the CTO environment. • Co-ordinate and manage all projects within Capital Projects to be implemented in the allocated region from end-to-end, setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring and summarising implementation progress of project deliverables.

KPA Duties

Project lifecycle Project Initiation and Planning • Identify and assign roles and responsibilities to all project implementation deliverables in the region (RACI Chart) • Prepare a detail implementation plan with effectivities (down to cluster and site level deliverables) that is aligned to HO streams high-level deliverables • Align regional detail deliverables and dependencies for each head officer stream deliverable milestones. • Ensure that all regional projects and products deliverables are planned in line with the project implementation plan milestones • Strives to group approved change requests in a manner that will achieve end item traceability and minimizes implementation costs • Plan all region project tasks needed to deliver projects in the region • Develop a region communication plan for projects • Develop a project implementation acceptance criteria • Develop a project issue and risk log Project Execution • Manage the end-to-end implementation and interdependencies of all projects pertaining to a region • Coordinate all regional project role players to complete tasks and milestone deliverables according to the project implementation plan and schedule. • Liaise with the regional warehouse to ensure that all materials needed by the projects in the region will be available on time as defined in the projects implementation plan • Liaise with all project team players in the region to ensure that all project deliverables are delivered in line with the implementation plan agreed targets • Interact with project subcontractors on their project deliverables • Liaise with adjacent regions project managers to synchronise on common cross regional implementation deliverables and timelines • Supply status reporting to Head Office Project Managers on the progress of the projects being implemented in the region • Ensure approved changes are implemented • Prepare the projects implementation plan with effective dates to enable the Change Implementation Board to make an informed business decisions on when to implement changes / infrastructure deliverables. • The project manager per region is the sole entry point between the region and head office regarding project deliverables in the region • Responsible to release the implementation plan actions for implementation in the region. • Responsible to manage back-log management as part of a capacity planning process when needed. • Coordinator of the (CIB) Change Implementation Board and prepare and distribute meeting information • Keep track of all implementation changes and keep records of changes implemented • Track progress of all work authorisations (WA) in region to ensure work is performed properly. • Manage and track schedules across the region and its defined clusters to ensure projects / products are delivered on time and within budget in such a way that will maximise revenue at the shortest time possible • Interface with Regional Operations in so far as day-to-day operations where dependencies exist between each other to ensure throughput. • Keep track of risks and issues and escalate when necessary Project Close Out • Ensure completeness and conformance of all project task and milestone deliverables • Ensure that all the project management actions in the region are completed and regional project file signed off at regional level before the project is officially handed back to the relevant head office project manager. Communication • Communicate actively throughout the project lifecycles, providing effective and status and feedback reports regarding project delivery and support deliverables to all stakeholders, especially relating to risk, change, status, decisions required. • Anticipate deviations from plans / schedule timorously and keep all participants and stakeholders informed. • Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion, communicating difficult/sensitive information tactfully Project Cost Control • Control, monitor and report the utilization of approved project budgets, ensuring that expenditure is in line with agreements and SLA’s and determining methods and initiatives to maximize cost/benefit ratios. Customer Satisfaction • Build and maintain solid relationships with all clients, suppliers and stakeholders. • Put contingency plans in place to prevent delays and enhance on-time delivery of quality solutions. • Adopt a proactive approach to prevent problems from arising in the future. • Drive continuous improvement as an important element of service delivery. • Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Complexity: (responsibilities for directing / guiding/ motivating / influencing others) • Assemble and allocate appropriately skilled and knowledgeable project teams to be able to meet deadlines, quality and budget specifications. • Work with and manage vendors and other resources where necessary to ensure project delivery and quality • Leads the cross functional Project team for the duration of the project. • Mentor the cross functional Project team for the duration of the project. • Mentor Project Engineers and Junior Project Managers • Negotiation with line managers to assign staff for project work • Escalate relevant and urgent queries to relevant Senior Managers • Manage boundaries that separate units in order to optimise workflow. Role Complexity: • The Project Manager should have sufficient latitude to exercise a wide degree of creativity in performing this role.

Requirements

• PMP© and or PRINCE2© Or • National Diploma in Project Management/Engineering/Business Or • Post graduate qualification in Project Management
• 3 years in project management with telecommunications / ICT as a minimum
