Security Specialist, L4, Syria

Purpose

If you are a passionate and committed professional wanting to make a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. UNICEF seeks a Security Specialist to be based in its Office, in Syria.

Under the guidance of the Representative the Security Specialist will be responsible for managing security issues relating to UNICEF staff and their eligible family members, programme implementation and UNICEF property. S/he will facilitate the office operations including scale up.

Qualifications and Competencies

• An advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) preferably in security risk management or a related security field or in social sciences or management. A first level University degree (Bachelors or equivalent) or Police/Military War College/Junior Command and Staff Certification / Qualifications and progressively responsible relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
• Eight years of relevant progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in handling security issues / matters, including police or military service with relevant knowledge or leadership experience.
• Including four (4) years international exposure in a security management function with proven crisis response and post crisis environments;
• UN/UNICEF experience will be an advantage.
• Experience in strategic planning, particularly related to the delivery of humanitarian assistance and in performing situational and political analysis.
• Competencies in Communication, Working with People, Drive for Results, Analyzing, Persuading and Influencing, Coping with Pressure and setbacks, Deciding and initiating action and Adapting and responding to change are required.
• Knowledge of latest development and technology in security and in the use of computer applications.
• Negotiating, and advocacy skills and the ability to inspire others into undertaking effective security management are required.
• Supervisory and managerial skills.
• Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment and establish/maintain good working relations with people of different cultures and nationalities.
• Excellent writing skills and the ability to provide accurate and concise briefs and reports to partners and staff at all levels are also required.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is a valuable asset to this post.
