Are you an undergraduate, graduate or recent grad with the desire to work within the international non-profit sector, obtain professional skills, gain a broadened perspective, and experience working in a corporate environment?

World Vision International (WVI) is a global network of people committed to enhance the well-being of children everywhere by empowering families and communities to overcome the challenges of poverty and injustice. Working alongside staff who are experts in their field, you’ll grow in your skills and in your knowledge of how your field fits into important humanitarian work.

The WVI Fall Internship Programme provides a stipend learning and development short-term work experience for undergraduate, graduate or recently graduated individuals. You will be among interns who desire to work within the international non-profit sector, while obtaining professional skills, a broadened perspective, and an experience in a corporate environment.

You will strengthen your relational skills and develop professional experience through interactive teamwork and department orientations. Working on structured assignments, you will work in your respective departments on these special tasks and projects. These projects will assist in the WV ministry and will furthermore provide an up-close view of the various functions and inner workings of World Vision.

This programme is designed to give you working experience within an international organisation that is Christian in its mission. In the same manner, WVI staff will have the opportunity to work alongside you in the role of both supervisor and mentor; fostering personal and professional growth. You will experience and be exposed to the complexities of working in an international organisation, as well as to a number of current domestic and international issues.

Child Development & Rights Internship
Project(s) Description

    • Assist with drafting WVI partnership Social Protection Paper
    • Lead environmental scan on the current policy and programmatic arenas with regards to birth registration
    • Assist Child Protection Design, Monitoring & Evaluation
    • Develop online training for World Vision staff, introducing child protection standards, roles and responsibilities

Learning & Development
These objectives will:
    • Expose you to critical issues at the cutting edge of policy and practice with regards to child rights and child poverty
    • Enhance your critical thinking, analysis and writing skills

Preferred Qualifications
    • 32-36 hrs per week
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Good research and analytical skills
    • Strong communication and facilitation skills
    • Ability to work virtually with people from across the world
    • Strong interest in child protection, child rights
    • Experience with Knowledge Management and online curriculum development

Education & Life Skills Internship
Project(s) Description
    • Participate in working to improve the functionality, design, and experience of the Education & Life Skills Communities of Practice (Ed&LS CoP) site. Finally, you will help develop various training resources and guidelines for GULL (part of WV’s capacity building strategy) and Shellbooks (this may include video screen casting, simple guidelines, storybooks/charts, etc.).
    • Liaise with representatives from other sectors in order to gather best practice resource materials that could be transferred into Shellbook formats for localization and use in communities in World Vision Area Development Programmes (ADPs). Sectors that will be targeted include Child Protection, Disability, Health/Water and Sanitation, Peacebuilding, Citizenship, HIV/AIDS, and Spiritual Nurture.
    • One who is particularly interested in certain sectors will have the option to focus their research and collaboration on those sectors, adding to their educational and professional experience.

Learning & Development
    • You will benefit from learning how to contextualize key messages in the Shellbooks format, adding to your multi-cultural understanding.
    • You will also gain useful technical skills in developing and publishing teaching and learning resources, and in working to investigate e-learning and producing training materials.
    • You will benefit from learning and working with key leaders in the various sectors and can expect to achieve an improved understanding of international development.
    • You will contribute to and develop an appreciation for creative ways of enhancing community engagement, and improving literacy and the development of key life skills.

    • Excellent relational and communication skills, proficient
    • Writing skills, the ability to be a self-starter, proficient computer skills, and the
    • Self-confidence required to work with all levels of staff
    • An interest or background in Education

Peacebuilding Internship
Project(s) Description
    • Intern will become a Peacebuilding Research Associate
    • Prepare executive briefings for facilitation teams of participatory macro-level context analysis ('Making Sense or Turbulent Contexts')
    • Draft workshop reports
    • Prepare literature and policy reviews to inform WV decision-making on innovations in conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding
    • Contribute to the collaborative editing and formatting of Peacebuilding Team publications, reports or training curricula.
    • Participate in Peacebuilding Team staff meetings for purposes of broader learning and mutual accountability.

Learning & Development
    • The above responsibilities provide an excellent opportunity to expand content mastery of the peacebuilding field, develop a track record of high quality analytical and writing work, and to experience how these skills are deployed in a professional NGO environment.

Preferred Qualifications
    • 24-32 hrs per week
    • Graduate students very strongly preferred
    • Academic background in conflict analysis and resolution, peace studies, international development, or humanitarian affairs
    • Strong skills in literature review, analysis, writing and editing
    • Previous professional experience in a cross-cultural environment
    • MS Word proficiency required; MS PowerPoint preferred
    • Ability to work semi -autonomously toward mutually agreed goals and deadlines, while seeking further clarification or support when it is needed.
