Are you an undergraduate, graduate or recent grad with the desire to work within the international non-profit sector, obtain professional skills, gain a broadened perspective, and experience working in a corporate environment?

World Vision International (WVI) is a global network of people committed to enhance the well-being of children everywhere by empowering families and communities to overcome the challenges of poverty and injustice. Working alongside staff who are experts in their field, you’ll grow in your skills and in your knowledge of how your field fits into important humanitarian work.

The WVI Fall Internship Programme provides a stipend learning and development short-term work experience for undergraduate, graduate or recently graduated individuals. You will be among interns who desire to work within the international non-profit sector, while obtaining professional skills, a broadened perspective, and an experience in a corporate environment.

You will strengthen your relational skills and develop professional experience through interactive teamwork and department orientations. Working on structured assignments, you will work in your respective departments on these special tasks and projects. These projects will assist in the WV ministry and will furthermore provide an up-close view of the various functions and inner workings of World Vision.

This programme is designed to give you working experience within an international organisation that is Christian in its mission. In the same manner, WVI staff will have the opportunity to work alongside you in the role of both supervisor and mentor; fostering personal and professional growth. You will experience and be exposed to the complexities of working in an international organisation, as well as to a number of current domestic and international issues.

IT Finance Internship
Project(s) Description

    • Establish Global Information Communication & Technology (GICT) vendor contracts database.
        - Objective: This would enable GICT management to have visibility of all contracts, agreements or commitments undertaken and their financial implications. This visibility would enable renewals of contracts as well as information required for budgetary purposes. Furthermore, this would also give visibility of overall commitments with specific vendors for future negotiation purposes.
    • Review and update the current Asset Inventory system.
        - Objective: The GICT asset inventory system currently being used needs review and if need be improvements made to ensure accuracy of physical assets and proper record keeping.

Learning & Development

IT Customer Service Team Internship
Project(s) Description

    • Analysis and implementation of updated Office and Location information for corporate address book to optimize the distribution and reporting in the new tool.
    • Evaluate the possibility of updating existing information in the service desk tool.
    • Assist in the creation and updating of process documentation for Global Centre Los Angeles (GCLA) Service Desk as well as the process for updating and maintaining this information over time.

Learning & Development
    • These assignments will expose you to aspects of managing and participating in an IT project that involves both technical work as well as multi-cultural interactions with WV staff across the Partnership and the challenges that can present.

Preferred Qualifications
    • 20-24 hrs per week
    • IT background, working on an information system degree or something similar – preferred
    • Good writing and communication skills as they will be producing reports and documentation as well as interacting with a number of WV staff via email.
    • A degree of practical technical experience with email systems and directories – preferred

Governance, Triennial Council/WVI Board – Internship
Project(s) Description
    • Communications - script writing - orientation e-learning project
    • Database & website updating for global event
    • Communications - writing preparatory materials for board of directors Triennial Council
    • Child participation planning and coordination
    • Planning Committee Participation - virtual/global

Learning & Development
    • You will learn about governance, the department and its organisation and work projects, the WV structure and decision making through the organizing, editing, and formatting of the information they work with.
    • Exposure to World Vision’s partnership-wide Triennial event
    • Expanded knowledge regarding World Vision International’s structure, governance
    • Skills that will be acquired working in the Governance Dept. can be transferred to other non-profit or business positions for their future. The manager will go through the applicability of those skills at the end of the internship.

    • MS App skills - particularly PowerPoint
    • Graphics skills and working with stock photos and animation - preferred
    • Spanish skills preferred

Governance, Board Development – Internship
Project(s) Description
    • Training Curriculum Development and Editing WV Board Development Programme
      • Comprehensive programme filled with orientation materials and resources to equip a National Office to recruit, prepare and manage, a new Advisory Council through to a high performing Board of Directors. This programme is essential for taking a WV Programme Office from its early stages to a fully operational interdependent partner governed locally with a voice within the worldwide Partnership of World Vision decision making. The first edition of the curriculum was created in 2009 and there are multiple projects in both Spanish and English to enhance, improve and organise content.
    • Website updating- creating content and updating on World Vision’s intranet: wvcentral.
    • Board tracking and reporting - analysing field reports and abbreviating salient data to track development & progress of the Advisory Council (A/C) or Board.
Learning & Development
    • You will learn about governance, the department and its organisation and work projects, the WV structure and decision making through the organizing, editing, and formatting of the information they work with.
    • You will learn how to work with SharePoint online platform, arrange data, and organise it for use on a webpage and posting.
    • Skills that will be acquired working in the Governance Dept. can be transferred to other non-profit or business positions for their future. The manager will go through the applicability of those skills at the end of the internship.

    • 36-40 hrs per week
    • Critical thinking, reading comprehension, analytical and writing skills.
    • All MS App skills - particularly excel
    • Spanish language skills preferred

OurPeople Project Digital Communications Internship
Project(s) Description
    • The internship will focus around the OurPeople/Human Resources Information System site within World Vision’s global intranet: wvcentral and OurPeople multimedia projects. You will be assigned specific deliverables with timelines, within an agreed framework for tracking progress, qualitatively and quantitatively.
    • The mentor will seek to identify your strengths in assigning deliverables within the context of the project’s needs, to develop your professional experience with the best outcomes for OurPeople.
    • You will be encouraged to engage in strategic thinking by actively inputting screen-based/multimedia/interactive solutions for maximum impact.
    • You will be encouraged to focus on user perspective and comfort in putting forward user friendly solutions to cater to the needs of the target audiences.
    • You will be given opportunities to engage cross-culturally across the Partnership toward enriching the OurPeople site content and your own experience.
    • You will be encouraged to participate in OurPeople team meetings for a more comprehensive understanding of the project, to better understand office systems and for enrichment through team work.

Learning & Development
    • You will learn to integrate web and multimedia design development with overall project communications strategy for maximum impact
    • You will learn to take design development work from concept to completion, consultatively, in a live environment
    • You will gain experience in type and editorial design, branding, packaging, multimedia presentations and website design input
    • You will develop problem solving skills involving screen-based solutions
    • You will gain knowledge of audience segmentation and audience focused design solutions for effective, user friendly communication
    • You will have the opportunity to build your portfolio

    • Bachelor’s Multimedia Design and Development: Web, Graphics and Multimedia management or related degree
    • Expertise in Web design, interactive media and animation
    • Curriculum background and skill set that encompasses motion graphics, digital photography and illustration techniques, graphic design, multimedia projects, sound, video, visual effects and animation.
    • Self-driven, self-motivated, confident, respectful engagement, strong work ethic, strong Christian commitment, passion for international humanitarian work
    • English fluency with strong verbal, visual and written communication skills
    • Ability to engage cross culturally

Internal Communications Internship
Project(s) Description

    • Develop writing for the web skills and writing for publication skills
    • Draft copy for staff newsletters and intranet
    • Select images for staff newsletters and intranet, and write captions for images
    • Develop basic SharePoint skills to learn how to develop sites on intranet
    • Create publications using main channel for communicating with 200 staff members in Global Centre Los Angeles (GCLA) which help you interact with people from different departments and understand how information impacts people
    • Measure effectiveness of Partnership Communications messages and analyse data
    • Conduct an annual review of Connections publication which will help team to know how well its covering the organisation's main priorities and reflects its strategies

Learning & Development
    • Work with team members working on projects that communicate with staff around the world
    • Learn how to write using British English.
    • Participate in regular meetings to track development and progress

Preferred Qualifications
    • 36-40 hrs per week
    • Communications degree (or working towards one)
    • Strong communications skills, particularly news writing, proofreading and editing
    • Strong understanding of Excel
    • Fast learner, quick adapter, self-directed, sense of curiosity, ability to jump start projects and leverage other people's expertise
    • Prior professional work experience in a team environment
    • Previous NGO experience – preferred
    • Prior news writing job experience – preferred
