Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to work in partnership with the business unit leadership team to deliver the strategy and optimise financial and business performance. 
 
Responsible for driving the business to achieve its financial and related targets, dealing with internal and external stakeholders and across directorates/IAG.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic finance support and be a single point of contact for finance for the business unit and senior team within that unit
  • Drive accountability for and monitor progress towards achievement of targets; propose and champion ideas and actions to ensure delivery
  • Provide input into the leadership team of the business unit, challenging decision making from both a business and financial perspective. Actively influence early thinking to ensure that all major business decisions are taken with sufficient understanding and buy-in to their financial consequences
  • Produce annual Finance Plan and Business Plans for the business unit and ensure the team are fully bought in to the business plan/financial plan for their areas
  • Own the financial strategy behind the business unit’s plans and lead on all financial and internal control issues within the Directorate by supporting the development of robust business cases and establishing and maintaining effective ongoing internal control of all capital and non-capital expenditure projects through the establishment of clear project accountability and ownership
  • Where appropriate, ensure cross directorate buy-in to the business unit’s strategies from a financial perspective
  • Lead the supplier cost reduction programme across all external supplier spend; including financial support for contract extensions and supplier retenders
  • Provide coaching for the business unit’s management team to develop their financial understanding
  • Lead and develop the finance team who support the business unit

  • Other senior colleagues who are impacted by the activity of the business unit
  • Head of FBP for the business unit and other FBPs in other directorates

Essential Qualifications
  • Degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Accounting qualification
Experience
  • Proven track record in senior Finance roles supporting senior teams with strategic change agendas
  • Extensive provision of manager level Finance support in an operational, commercial and (where appropriate) unionised environment
  • Influencing decision-making across the business to ensure financial consequences are taken into account
  • Hands on experience of financial reporting and forecasting, budgetary control and business/financial planning
  • Track record of creating and maintaining a robust control environment
  • Proven capability to prioritise, work under pressure and operate to tight deadlines
Expertise
  • Provision of leadership to the business to drive achievement of financial and business targets
  • Ability to devise and follow through on profit improvement programmes
  • Ability to develop financial cases for complex business strategies including evaluation of insource/outsource opportunities
  • Understanding of airline industry, competitive landscape and (where appropriate) unionised workforces
