Portfolio and Business Development Manager

About the role
 
The role provides wide ranging commercial oversight for EE&P’s exploration activities and business development projects across the UK and Norway. It also supports the provision of transaction services to EEP business units typically involving producing assets

The analysis of external market data and also of the full EEP portfolio forms an important part of the role. The resultant insights would form part of senior management presentations and could lead to subsequent business development activity.
 
 
Key accountabilities
• Identification of new upstream opportunities for BG in the UKCS and Norway that is consistent with EE&P strategy. Typically these will be “Above Plan” opportunities such as asset (or corporate) divestments, acquisitions, farm-ins/farm-outs, Licence rounds and similar transactions.

• Leading all negotiations with external and third parties (partners, other counterparties and Government) associated with any agreed opportunities or transactions and ensuring the successful deal closure with the external counter-party for relevant projects.

• In conjunction with the BD & Portfolio Manager responsible for coordinating the technical and economic input to the evaluation of any agreed opportunities and managing them through BG’s internal review and approval process.

• Primarily responsible for supervising the production licence management support to Exploration for all UK exploration and appraisal acreage. Specific activities include providing commercial advice on: DECC Fallow process, FDAs, assignments, relinquishments, re-determinations

• Provision of wide-ranging expert commercial advice and leadership to EEP Exploration and where appropriate producing assets and project development teams on:
o Licence management: strategy, DECC’s fallow process, assignments, extensions, relinquishments, sub-area creation, FDAs, FDPs etc.
o Commercial agreements: Structure and negotiate agreements on topics such as transfer of operatorship, pipeline crossing, AMIs, Joint Bidding, JOAs, CAs, etc.

• Identification of key sector trends: competitors, peers, industry, government etc. Responsible for the early recognition of threats and opportunities to EEP’s portfolio. In conjunction with the BD & Portfolio Manager prepare presentations for senior management incorporating these insights together with recommendations and alternatives.

• Primary commercial contact for certain pre-existing commercial agreements and processes e.g. JOAs, licence management etc.

• Proposes enhancements to existing agreements and processes

• Co-ordinate a multi-functional team to successfully deliver internal BG approval of nominated projects.

 
 
What we are looking for
Excellent understanding and detailed working knowledge of a wide range of upstream operating agreements (e.g. JOA, SPA, Farm-in/out agreements, UOA, AMI, Joint Bidding Agreement etc.).

Successful record of leadership of business development deal, origination, evaluation, negotiation and closure.

Strong network of industry contacts and also across a wide range of assets and functions within BG.

Wide ranging experience of managing complex commercial projects through the internal review process and succinctly presenting the recommendations to senior management.

A significant track record of creating value from innovative structures (such as tax optimization) and/or from other parts of the value chain (e.g. mid-stream).

 • Industry relevant degree and potentially a post-graduate qualification

• Ability to work independently and establish work priorities

• Commercial, financial, tax and economic skills

• Strong negotiating skills

• Innovative and strategic thinking with a positive attitude to problem solving

• Recognised ability to clearly and succinctly articulate complex issues at executive levels

• Up-to-date awareness of the key trends and issues impacting the energy sector

• Ability to develop and maintain a wide range of business relationships, both internal and externally (peer companies, government departments, industry brokers, banks etc.)
