COHRED is seeking an exceptional person who will make Forum 2015 the bestForum meeting ever … for health, equity and development

The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) drives health, equity and socio-economic development by optimizing the production and use of research and innovation for health. We work globally but prioritize low income countries and populations. We provide technical support, practical tools, and global action. We work with institutions, countries, governments, private sector, academic institutions, non-governmental organisations, individuals and others who can impact on making research and innovation work for health, equity and development for those who need it most, around the world.

We are currently seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and expert colleague who can provide high level support to the joint effort between COHRED and the Philippine Ministries of Science & Technology and of Health to deliver Forum 2015 : the Global Forum for Research and Innovation for Health – Manila – 25-27 August 2015.

This Forum is the successor of the ‘Global Forum for Health Research’ – and it has changed substantially to be responsive to a new world in which the global health research agenda is set as much in the ‘global south’ as it is in the ‘global north’ – and in which the solutions are also resulting from collaboration rather than one-way transfer of resource and expertise.

The Forum will coincide with a milestone in further formalizing ASEAN collaboration, and with the APEC meeting being held in Manila. Asia’s role in and responsibility for global health through research and innovation will feature highly – while the needs and potentials of a global focus on health and equity through research and innovation will remain key.

This is no mean task – and will be a great challenge to anyone who believes this world can do better – improve health for everyone, reduce inequity, and stimulate social and economic development at the same time – through research and innovation for health.

COHRED’s contribution will focus on creating high level value before, during and after the Forum 2015, and will build on the organizational work with the Philippine Council on Health Research for Development. The person we are looking for will have a broad global background in science & technology, focusing on health, equity and development; a global network in public, private and non-profit sectors; an innovative approach to creating dialogue aimed at getting to solutions; experience in global meetings as tools to improve global health. We do have events organization capabilities – so that is not the focus of this position.

We are looking for two dynamic individuals with experience relevant to these two projects and to COHRED’s overall work: technical support, practical tools, global action – to promote research and innovation for health, equity and development.

The position will be based at COHRED’s offices in Geneva. A Swiss work permit is essential.
