Principal Consultant, Economics/Private Sector Development, Nathan London

The Nathan London office consists of a group of consultants mostly with an economics background who manage a portfolio of projects predominantly focused on private sector development in Africa and Asia. Our approach is to work in teams and all our consultants combine skills and responsibilities for managing projects, winning business and for delivering high quality technical work. Nathan London’s portfolio is balanced between the implementation of long-term major programmes in the field and the delivery of short-term assignments. The short-term assignments involve a mix of policy development, economic and diagnostic research, and programme designs and evaluations.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced consultant to join the Nathan London team. The Principal economist we are looking for will take a senior role in the Company with the following responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the management of the Company, participating in the development of strategies, policies, recruitment, and HR development;
  • Oversee the management of long and short-term projects and programmes;
  • Develop a portfolio of technical work and lead assignments within this portfolio;
  • Lead and support the preparation of proposals;
  • Market the company and identify opportunities for new business.
Qualifications
Skills and experience will include:
  • A Masters degree or PhD;
  • At least 10 years of experience as a consultant and a good understanding of the development consultancy business;
  • A track record in delivering high quality technical work, providing project/programme management, and winning business;
  • Technical expertise and experience in one or more of the following:
    • Economics
    • Private sector development
    • Financial sector development
    • Market development
    • Agriculture and Rural development
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, presentation, and writing skills;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Good network of professional contacts and ability to network well with partners and clients.
The position will be based in London with frequent travel to projects in the field. Candidates must have, or be able to obtain themselves, the right to live and work in the UK.
