Surge Support Volunteer

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world, is currently seeking Surge Support Volunteers for the Emergencies and Recovery Team (ERT).
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Operations, the ERT is seeking to recruit individuals who are able to assist in their day-to-day operations and who can be called upon, often with short notice, to provide additional support during emergency responses.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support in compiling briefing notes, operational summaries and snapshot documents for ongoing emergency operations • Coordinate information sharing within ERT and external units including for example the CRC finance and HR team, e.g. Task Force minutes, operation timeline • Prepare and support in the compilation of briefing packages for delegates deploying to the field and support planning of briefing process and/or debriefing process • Manage incoming information from the field and synthesize information as needed • Support development of efficient operation filing system and organize information on the shared directories (file management) • Support drafting and processing of financial and administrative procedural forms, e.g. payment authorizations, mission estimates, decision papers • Support the deployment and replenishment of equipment sent to the field, including packing delegate kits, labelling and charging IT/Telecom equipment, and assisting with the inventory of all ERT equipment stocks at National Office • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• Understanding of CRC Emergency Response Tools and Mechanisms • Strong administrative and organizational skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Power point, Excel) experience with Microsoft Access is a definite asset • Self starter and able to work in an environment with ambiguity and tight timelines. Strong ability to multitask required • Previous Red Cross experience is required • Written and oral communication skills • Strong organization skills • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment • Ability to influence others • Ability to collaborate effectively • Fluency in English and French a definite asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position will be based in Ottawa, Ontario. The majority of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable. Work hours are approximately two – five hours a week. There may be an occasional requirement to work additional hours during an international emergency operation, often with short notice.
