R&D Principle Engineers/R&D Senior Engineers for Additive Manufacturing

Sandvik is a global industrial group with advanced products and world-leading positions in selected areas – tools for metal cutting, equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries, stainless materials, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials and process systems.
The Additive Manufacturing Center at Group R&D is a corporate initiative to evaluate AM as a technology for the Sandvik Group. The focus of the AM Center will be to evaluate the possibilities for Sandvik's use of these new technologies. This will be done in close collaboration with our different business areas (BAs). We are now looking for innovative R&D Principle Engineers/R&D Senior Engineers who wants to take part in building a new R&D team in Sandviken!
Key performance areas
As R&D Principle Engineer/R&D Senior Engineer you initiate and run research projects in the field of additive manufacturing. You also have responsibilities for technology monitoring within the fields of AM. Furthermore, it's of great importance that you build a network, with overall responsibility for contact with other Sandvik units as well as universities and other research centers. You will also act as mentor and role model for younger members within the AM team.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with an MSc or a PhD in Materials Science or a similar field (i.e. metallurgy, physics or chemistry), combined with two to four years' experience from these areas:
- Additive manufacturing (AM) (electron beam melting, laser beam melting, binder jetting or other AM techniques or hydride AM techniques)
- Powder metallurgy (stainless steels, tungsten carbides or other Sandvik relevant materials and knowledge about sintering processes)
Experience in these areas is advantageous:
- Material characterization (elemental analysis, microscopy LOM and SEM, phase determinations, diffraction techniques, stress measurements, evaluation of mechanical properties, etc.)
- 3D design for AM or machining (knowledge of CAD drawings, Magic software, other relevant software used by AM technology)
Good communication skills in English are a prerequisite for the position, and knowledge of Swedish is advantageous.
As a person you are a communicative team player, with a passion for innovation and new technological discoveries. Knowledge of Sandvik's products and production processes are a merit and you are familiar with hands-on work in the lab and how to handle metal powders. Furthermore, you are able to drive tasks and research projects independently but also act as a member of, and understanding the importance of creating, a strong diverse team. Finally, you have a structured way of working and a strong technical competence.
